Model Refuses To Pluck Her Unibrow, Challenges Beauty Stereotypes
Eyebrows have been the center of – and sometimes the victim of – all sorts of creative (not to mention bizarre) beauty trends throughout the years. From thin brows to bushy brows, feather brows to squiggly brows, magazines and beauty blogs are never short of ideas about what you should be doing with those furry things on your face.
One thing they never instruct you to do however is to let your eyebrows meet, thereby forming the much-lamented unibrow, but one woman is determined to prove that they’re nothing to be ashamed of. As you can see from the pictures below, Greek Cypriot student and model Sophia Hadjipanteli, who’s naturally a blonde, even dyes her unibrow black to emphasize it more. And, with over 60k followers on Instagram, there’s no shortage of people subscribing to her #UnibrowMovement.
Sophia openly accepts that her look is not to everybody’s taste, and she understands that some people find it unattractive, but she isn’t concerned about what other people think of her. “I personally think my face looks better this way,” she said. Despite being called the unibrow girl, she’s totally cool about it.
She recently posed as Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican painter also known for her striking unibrow, after getting inundated with requests to dress up like the iconic artist. “I have always loved her and thought she was so beautiful. After doing that, I feel like I have labeled myself as someone who is embracing being myself and isn’t necessarily being natural, but instead just doing what I want.”
What do you think? Is it time to ditch the tweezers? Let us know in the comments below, and if you want to read about another young unibrow model who’s embracing her unique eyebrows then click here.

So, she'll dye her hair, wear makeup, and do all the other things ladies do for beauty, yet, she won't pluck her eyebrows? This is just for attention. And it worked.
Yep, exactly... I mean, she shaves her arms, legs and armpits... Probably some other parts of her body too... :D However, I think she is still pretty, though she would look much better with trimmed eyebrows.
Load More Replies...She definitely does not shave her arms. You can see the peach fuzz on the first shot where her arms are visible. There are no images of her legs or her armpits or anything indicating she has lip hair, so no way (at least in this photo set) to determine whether or not she does remove that hair. And what does it matter if she does or does not? She's lovely, she feels comfortable looking as she chooses to look, and her unique look is part of what brings her the requisite attention to be a model. There's nothing wrong with courting attention, particularly when one works in an industry that requires it. I, personally, do not choose to have my eyebrows look like that, but her choice in no way impacts my own. More power to her.
@Michael Boatman... you can easily see on her pictures how clean and shaver her pits and legs are...
hmm, I have some really shocking news for you: You can do whatever you want to your body and there is no logic to it. It's your choice. If you wear make-up, it doesn't mean you HAVE to do other things. Grow up.
"You can do whatever you want to your body" I like to swing my arms wildly, kick and stomp, and spit while in crowded places.
If you read the whole article, you'll find the part where she says the point is not about being natural, it's about this one detail that goes against all beauty standards. She's making it fit within other beauty standards. Also, it states that she doesn't dye her hair blond, it's that she dyes her eyebrows dark.
So she artificially colors her eyebrows to make them stand out? Why not weave some longer hair into them and get tattoos of arrows pointing at them?
you know what modeling is about right? and what do agencies do to hire new models? they look for unique STRIKING looks, aka. someone who catches your eye for whatever reason.
Yes , it may be for attention and she may love all the attention she gets because of it ...I think she can do whatever she wants as long as she's not putting anyone else down ...
I think she said, she feels she looks better this way. The argument that she wears make up changes nothing and is not hypocritical of her at all.
you say she does other things for beauty but not her eyebrows. i disagree. She dyed them black and isn't shaving them in the name of beauty. Because unibrows can be beautiful too. And you being judgy over her fashion choices is exactly why she's doing this
Doodie, decapitated heads, and lazy eyes are beautiful, too. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
No, she’s simply trying to break the beauty standerd one barrier at a time. At least that’s what I believe
Yikes William. Thank everything it's her face...and not yours. It's absolutely lovely she has embraced and highlighted this obscurity. This encourages others to do the same. If a woman has a gap in her teeth that she enjoys...but gets her teeth whitened is she "attention seeking?" In no way, shape, or form, is there anything wrong with seeking attention for embracing one's differences. She's gorgeous... she's different ...and she's living apart from the vanilla misogynist standards of beauty a majority of society possesses.
Well, if everyone else has the biggest this, or the smallest that... then what makes her stand out. There's nothing about challenging stereotypes at all.
Sorry, but i think it looks ridiculous with the dyed hair! Nobody needs to pluck their brows if they don't want to, but that just looks odd.
Yeah, sorry I wasn't paying attention to that, but regardless - the contrast looks really tacky and overly attention-seeking
Load More Replies...Agreed. I was thinking myself "It's not my thing, but whatever", but the eyebrows just stand out too much with obviously dyed blond hair.
Lara, I actually have doubts about her being a natural blonde, first I've never seen a blonde Greek and secondly even if her natural colour is lighter, this one is obviously lightened even more (bleached) xD
Oh most certainly, it doesn't look like a natural shade for her. Honestly, I thought it was very obviously dyed because it looks like the kind of dye-jobs I'd see the girls in high-school with! Not something professional, like a MODEL should have!
It looks like she shaved her brows to promote growth. like a misplaced mustache.
Yes, shaving does promote growth. Hair grows to a certain length and stops; it will restart growing when cut or shaved.
She is a blonde, the article says she dyes the eyebrows to emphasize them
the hair is natural, the eyebrows are dyed, did you read the article?
Actually, her hair is not all natural... You can see she has highlights.
