Amsterdam-based artist Cedric Laquieze creates surreal-looking sculptures of fairies by piecing together various dead insect parts.
Over the last 20 years, Cedric Laquieze has created hundreds of unique insect-based fairies by piecing together various bug parts that complement each other in terms of features such as color and texture. He buys and collects dead insect specimens that, most of the time, are given to him by insect breeders. Then, he gradually takes them apart and then glues together different parts of the bugs (shells, legs, antennae, wings, etc.) according to his vision.
Although some people might be creeped out by Cedric’s unusual creations, others find them utterly fascinating and praise the artist for piecing together creatures that look almost lifelike and surreal at the same time.

As beautifull as they are, I wonder if this contributes to the illegal harvesting of rare wild insect, especially butterflies, where loads get destroyed, to get a few live speciments home. Destroying the wild habitats. Just like the Victorians made quite a few species extinct or close to, when it became a fad to collect dead butterflies mounted in glassboxes.

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully the artist re-purposes already deceased insects. Either way...creep as all hell

Omg all of these are unique and never-before seen. I love how all the colors compliment each other and how the artists try to incorporate all types of insects onto one "fairy". I would never do these because I am deathly afraid of insects, but WOW these look amazing.

Umm, you are really creative, and these "fairies" are wonderful, but I think they are a bit scary, I mean they made from dead bugs, haha I am goin' to call them "Bugestein Fairies".😁
