You know... Citing statistics or reports would make this sound a lot less like you're stereotyping a whole nation. Rape and sexual assault are indeed a problem in Japan, as they are in pretty much all countries, but when you say "constantly" that sounds like women are unable to walk down the street without being assaulted, which is not the case. Yes, Japanese law needs improvement when it comes to sexual assault. Yes, Japanese police need better training to deal with it. Yes, Japanese culture in general should continue advancing in its understanding of sexual assault and survivors of it. But there are no statistics that demonstrate that Japan is worse off than the US, nor that women can't safely walk down the street or go on dates as your comment implies.

Yes, I'm aware of the groping problems and the women's trains. But rather than saying "Women are constantly getting raped" wouldn't it sound less like a sweeping generalization to say, "1 in 15 women report having been raped" (that's the actual reported statistic, btw). Or "there is still such a culture of shame in Japan, that mosy rapes go unreported"? I actually have been to Japan and used its public transportation. I never felt unsafe or harassed. I didn't see it happen to anyone else. I'm aware that it's common enough that it's often a plot element in Japanese media (girl is getting groped on a train! Boy saves her and holds the perp until they can get the police! They fall in love!) and that many women have had it happen to them. But to say "Women constantly get raped and groped" makes it sound like they're being carried off in the streets, and that's just not reflected in Japan.

Like I said, it does have it's flaws.

I have never felt safer walking down the street/in the subway/ out shopping than I have in Japan. It’s obvious you’ve never bothered to go there, you’re talking through your hat.

@Puddin sorry I was too lazy to look up sources but I remember reading a few pages talking about how bad it was. Women there claimed that they get groped a lot and that they have actually gotten used to it. One woman when asked why she didn't tell the police, she said she didn't want to get anybody in trouble, that it was no big deal. I also read something that said it was so bad on trains that they had female only trains or something like that because women were being touched a lot and sometimes raped, even though it was in public. I can't remember where I read it and honestly it was a while ago. The site might not be there anymore and I don't actually know 100% that what I read was the truth. I guess take it with a grain of salt.
