Body Of Souls: My Bipolar Special Effects Makeup Concept

This special effects makeup concept was inspired by our inner demons, and mental illnesses such as bipolar, ADHD, and depression. It is thought that we can all relate by having inner demons, a self-doubt constantly dragging us down.
I created the latex mask and body pieces all within a 9 day turn to apply on a photo shoot using Suzi Cumming as a model. The occasion was special to us as we collaborated with ideas as Suzi is a sufferer and really helped make it clear what suffering actually looks like if you could see what a sufferer was feeling. Suzi suggested incorporating hands as if being held back and tied down or suffocated. And I really wanted to show expressions and emotions in the faces within the design. Also, an ambigram was put into the design which states “I’m fine” and when turned upside down it reads “save me”.
The professional photographs were taken by horror fanatic Rick Jones at Horrify me studios. I picked Rick for his amazing editing skills and love of horror and details because although they photographed the design in its raw state they later added lots of fake blood which pushed the design into a graphic gory style. The design took 6 hours to apply with assistant Claire Jones. If it was not for Claire assistance the design would have taken much longer to apply. The idea of wearing a mask also brings into the concept that many of us hide behind a mask of our true feelings daily as we put on a happy face to mask the pain inside or hardship times in our lives. The design is special and, hopefully, it shows to everyone suffering that they are not alone. Speak out and speak to anyone about how you’re feeling it will probably turn out that they may have been feeling similar at some point.

I don’t like it at all. With the help of my doctors, medicines, groups, all these emotions are nonexistent. I don’t want sympathy for who an what I am, because I am different. I got tired of saying why me, an got help. I’m still bipolar, an have depression, an aggro phobia. But I control it.... it doesn’t control me.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 9 years ago. And I am more MANIC what is not so common..this is not a 'better' part of the disease. Now my demons are weak, and I feel stability but this artist really got the point!!!

It reminds me of that awful crap monster the Abzorbaloff from Doctor Who. This is much better than that. Also getting a lot of Clive Barker from this. I'd like to see more of this persons work.

I like the body pieces and mask, but you're making artist didn't blend at all! You can clearly see the edges of the applied pieces near the shoulder, and the skin around isn't the same pale tone. It's really good so far, I hope I'm not being offensive, but it just could use a bit more time to blend around the applications.

that design already took me 6 hours . so yes it was rushed for the fact it was for the photoshoot . oh and the pieces were done cheaply with latex. all within a 9 day turn around .. if you can do better and faster using latex please tell me how
6 hours to apply on the day woth assistant ..do you think I cared about edges after working day and night on it to bring something to apply that day !

ADHD isn't a mental illness.
and how do you know that ha? if something inside you drives your soul like a rollercoaster, and you don't have any ability to control or supress it, it is mental illness. And people like you, that just know nothing about how that feels like, are making survival of a mental illness worse. By revoking its existence you are discrediting a whole person, and there are many out there of this kind. Suffering on one hand from a desease, that will never go away, and on the other hand, of trying to hide it's existence, because nobody takes it serious.
It's a disorder, not mental illness. Meds won't magically make it go away. There's no cure. It can make life difficult and cause depression and panic disorder for example. But yeah, it is not a mental illness.
ADHD is in the DSMV-5, so technically it is.

this is one of the most grotesque & misleading interpretations of what miss odel calls "mental illness". i 890'/feel she has never suffered from any type of "mental state that most don't understand. but more of a mental state we do;; of a deranged expression of her own beliefs which are obviously not of the HIGHEST POWER JEHOVAH, but of the lowest power; the fallen angel Satan. miss odel this only your interpretation. before you label any group of people remember this Judge not;, that ye be not judged.
