Kid Gets Bullied Because Of His ‘Girly’ Lunchbox, So His Uncle Responds In The Most Epic Way
A couple of months ago, David Pendragon took to Facebook to tell people how some boys at school were bullying his nephew, just because of his lunchbox. “My cousin, Emily, has a 10-year-old son named Ryker. Ryker, who loves cats, was very excited to get his new lunchbox. Unfortunately because of its colors, or because it has cats, or both he was teased about it by other boys in his class. He even wanted to stop taking his lunch so he wouldn’t be teased about it any longer,” Pendragon wrote on his Facebook wall.
So, the kind uncle decided to prove a point, buying the same lunchbox and bringing it to work. And it sure worked! Once Pendragon shared the image of him and the lunchbox at work, the Internet went crazy, with 148k likes and over 60k shares on Facebook, people found a way to encourage Ryker and other young boys to be themselves. Strangers started buying the same or similar lunchboxes and posting pictures with them to Pendragon’s Facebook, and the best part is that the lunchboxes managed to get sold-out twice after the post went viral.
Scroll down to see what Pendragon has to say about bullies, and tell us what you think it in the comments!

I know, despite the heart-warming story, my first thought was, "Wait, his lastname is Pendragon?". But yes, kudos to him for defending the kid, if I had learnt sooner that I shouldn't care about what other people said, I would've had a much simpler and happier childhood. Going back to the lastname, I wish I had that lastname
Load More Replies...I love to see all the support Ryker is getting. These people are doing an amazing job. But, as a former bullied kid myself, I think what Ryker really needs is to see boys his age do the same thing. Kids, puberty, adolescents and adults → it's 4 kinds of different worlds really. Still, all the support from adults stays valid. And to you, Ryker, please, know that eventually you will graduate and change environment, nod needing to deal with seeing their faces anymore. Then, after going to your next school, it won't be easy, but you will find different kinds of people, probably making new friends too. By the end of high school, you might get to all get along. Some of the bullies may even apologise to you (not kidding, talking from experience). And then, when you reach university, that will be the best time. So, never let those little goblins break you up. You can become stronger anytime you heal from wounds. And in the end, you're the hero.
Kids are awful.. that lunchbox is fricken AWESOME though and I want one.
That's all nice and empathetic of us grownups. But the reality for that kid will stil suck. Ok, so this is probably going to be an impupular opinion because the first reaction to these kinds of posts would be awww. That's so sweet. I'm going to buy a lunchbag like that as well to support it! I think in reality this gesture directly does more for our feelings than his. His world is his school, friends of his age and his classmates. A few grown ups who have ALL passed the feelings of insecurity and are currently in a phase of their lives where it's alot easier to be yourself is not going to change HIS world. If all kids are more individual and diverse in their clothing and accesoires. Then things might change. But we have to accept the fact and during that time it's just going to suck ALOT for those kids. That's the honest and harsh truth if you ask me.
I love this story! I hope Ryker is happy and loving everyone who wan'ts to be just like him :) how precious. On a side note, when is bullying going to start getting the attention it so desperately needs ? I'd love to see the day this is so unacceptable and made clear, in especially school settings, it will not be tolerated in anyway, and dealt with immediately & harshly.
As previously said...anyone who loves cats is awesome. XD Great message, I love reading this sort of stuff. It makes me smile :D
Sometimes, a hero is close by, even your cousin. Smart man John !!!
My son had this same lunchbox for kindergarten. His loves include all things outer space, and his adopted orange tabby cat, Lion-O- so he asked for this lunchbox the moment we saw it at Target. It’s sad that people can’t mind their own business and let others enjoy the things that make them happy... especially when that something is as awesome as a purple space kitty lunchbox!
I love the picture at the beginning! Same shirt as a boy in my grade. Same lunchbox as my friend!
sexual equality isnt just about women being equal its about everybody being equal and that means never being ashamed of what you are, what you wear and what (or who) you love. sadly you only get perspective later in life but that Cat lunchbox is pretty awesome.
My boyfriend has a pop socket on his phone with those same cats in space, in the same colors!! He loves it, I love it and so does everyone who sees it! Space cat is awesome, and those bullies are just lame and behind on the cats in space loving times. Rock on Ryker!
Ryker, my son is 10 and loves cats he proudly uses folders, and pencil cases with cats on them, he even takes stuffed cats to school. The only reason he doesn't carry a cat lunchbox is because I haven't found one for him but I may have to get him that lunch box!
Kids bully about the dumbest things, and I'm sure in 10/20 years they'll all regret it. And to everyone that bullied me for wearing skinny jeans in the 90's, I was just that ahead of the time ;)
awe. i just want to beat all of you up sooooo much. Leave the kid alone. let him wallow in his bullydom. how else will he cure cancer.
Is there a law that guys/boys can’t like certain colors/designs???? NO!!!
Faith in humanity - restored! Why do people get bullied on silly thing such as a lunch box? I'm in high school and I've proudly walked in to my HIGHLY judemental high school with a Monster High pencil case and ruler and PROUDLY announce my love for LEGO Ninjago and Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir! More people should proudly embrace what they love and people who have a problem with it should keep it to themselves. Keep going strong Ryker and you have an AMAZING cousin <3
What a great tale. Tail. LOL Being a kid is hard. Kids can be so damn mean!
What sucks is the kid is probably still getting bullied by ignorant little shits. Hopefully he realizes that eh's the better person for being who he is. Sadly, he will come in contact with people like this his entire life. There are some that just don't progress past the ignorant bully phase and retain this horrible trait throughout life.
Is just me or am I misreading the shirt Ryker is wearing? Isn't that Dab Cat? Isn't that a drug reference? I've sent my kids to school with fun shirts like that only to be told, um, there's more to it than just the fun cat... oops! Either way, you rock your lunchbox kiddo! Those bullies can bully elsewhere!
I could be wrong, but I don't think the drug connection is a common meaning or is usually associated with the dance move. I sorta feel like it's grasping for straws to make a big deal out of it. From what I know, when people first started dabbing (the dance move) some people alleged that it referenced like, coughing caused by smoke from drugs or something (I don't know much about these things lol!) but I really think in general culture it's only seen as a popular dance move fad, and almost no one sees it and thinks "oh yeah they're dancing about drugs."
