The Japanese once again proved that their workmanship and efficiency are top level. A 30m by 27m and 15m deep sinkhole opened up outside a busy railway station in the city of Fukuoka, damaging the road and threatening nearby buildings. However, it took only 48 hours to repair power cuts, restore gas and water supplies, as well as fill everything with 6,200 cubic metres of sand and cement, although health and security checks delayed the actual reopening of the site.
According to the mayor Soichiro Takashima, the affected ground is now 30 times stronger than before. The workers involved in this engineering project have been praised by social media and everyone are happy that there wasn’t a single report of injuries.
Efficiency, we found that is in Japan it is in their blood!
Load More Replies...Actually it was a week, not 48 hours. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/11/15/national/fukuoka-street-reopens-week-massive-sinkhole-appeared/#.WCsX1GR94zY
They FIXED it in 48 hours, but health and security checks delayed the reopening :)
Load More Replies...And if there's a roadwork in Germany because of a malfunction traffic light, they need one and a half year to fix it.
The Math is wrong!!!30m*27m*15m=9000m³, yet the filled 6200 m³. Okay Japan, not taking their work ethic away, but this is simply not plausible
In Japan, the speed of a repair like this is motivated by shame. The Japanese pride themselves on being better, faster, smarter, etc. This sink hole was a global embarrassment for them. At ANY cost, no matter how many workers, sweep the problem under the rug as quickly as possible. Also, this entire exercise deflects from the fact that the sink hole happened. Lets not forget that more sink holes are imminent and people will be hurt or killed falling into them.
Umm 48h?? I wonder how much longer it will hold!! If it was that fast of a job they didn't put any care into it!!
