Hollywood Did Not Appreciate Ricky Gervais Roasting Them With His Golden Globes Monologue

When you watch the audience you can see a lot of them thinking that Ricky Gervais knows too much about them.

It was the best. Dragging those self-righteous sanctimonious Hollywood Elite. I can watch it over and over again. Good on you Ricky you're the hero we need. You should be on Times magazine person of the year it was brilliant

As a comedian, I never found Gervais remotely funny. I tried a few things of his, but nope, not a titter, so I lost interest in him and never had any time for him. Now, I'm a big fan! Still don't find him funny, but when he bursts those fragile little egos, that is beyond comedy and so, so true.

Ricky Gervais is a f*****g awesome, savage little ray of reality. I love him to bits.

It was about time someone else in the media called out the hypocrisy of the glitterati.

Ricky Gervais was great with his roast. He could have been even more wicked, but he showed some restraint. Those Hollywood egos need some deflating.

I've only seen one of his Golden Globe speeches (I think the first one). They knew what they were getting into. I'm not a massive fan of Gervais (too obvious for my personal taste) but he is a talented comedian and even before he was super famous, he was pretty fearless.

Good for him. I'm glad he unloaded on them with both barrels.

Ricky is a classical liberal and has actual integrity. This is how conservative republicans find incredible joy in the take down and still disagree with him on other issues. It is called critical thinking and finding agreement.

I love him--have done for years. They hired him precisely because he does this and I thought he was actually a bit restrained, compared to previous years.

He was hosting an awards show for the entertainment industry. Key word being 'entertainment.' there are no 'sacred cows' in Hollywood so I personally don't see what the fuss is about. I thought Ricky Gervais was wildly entertaining.

I found what he said not only funny, but true. The truth hurts when it’s smiling in your face doesn’t it?

AHHHAHAHAHA! Ok, I am right leaning. I do not envision that he will ever be speaking to support what I do. But it is so refreshing to see someone, anyone, right or left, tell the pompous rich who do far less research into a topic before supporting it than the average voter does (which is sadly very little for most, on either side). He called them out. And better yet, IT IS HIS JOB! He is a comedian, and the funniest jokes contain some truth. Those who got offended need to check themselves. Back your positions, fine, but at least laugh at the jokes tossed your way because of it! He was always MEH to me, until now....I may give his material more of a shot. Huge....the size of his brass balls.

This makes me wish I had watched the opening of the Globe Awards. Would not watch anymore than that but that would have been great! Nice to know there is still one comedian at least that has a backbone and isn't going to roll over for either side!!!

I’m also just shocked that no media outlet has picked up how Reese laughed when Ricky made those Leo jokes. She was right in the background when they showed Leo and it was HILARIOUS. She tried not to laugh but made a face like “this is too true” and openly laughed. You can tell that Leo’s young gfs are an inside joke between many in Hollywood.

Ricky Gervais has my total respect. He had the balls to call out some very privileged hypocrites who merely pay lip service to liberal ideas—-but only if those are the currently popular ideas. The ones who laughed are the ones who actually put their money where their mouth is, and genuinely contribute their time and/or money to legitimate causes they believe in, making them truly woke. The ones who didn’t laugh are the ones who make a big noise acting like they’re woke without actually being woke—-for nothing more than making themselves look relevant in that moment, after which they never say another word about it.

This man knows c**p when he's in front of it. For all the underpaid teachers and workers, and these overpaid egomaniacs, it's just a show where people give themselves awards. Does anyone even remember last year? And much as I try to side with my sisters, Hollywood women sell sexuality, then cry about someone biting your tit -- this isn't the game for you. All these awards have run their course. Dump it all. It's fantasy, it's cartoons, it makes women hate their bodies and everyone hate their life. Stop the world, I want to get off!

Hollywood absolutely deserved the can of "whup-a$$" [as we say in Texas] that Ricky Gervais opened on them--and more. They are hypocrites, liars, perverts and thieves--and those are their better points. The Greta Thunberg comment was so spot on that when Tom Hanks showed disdain--I wished he would have needed to change his pants.

I hate Ricky Gervais! I only saw his F off speech and that's enough. It's disrespectful, rude and down right disgusting. What's he even hosting this for anyway?? I watched a video on Youtube of all of his speeches and the whole night was that amazing. That took a lot of nerve and I respect him a lot for doing it. Telling the truth to the people who are hiding from it takes nerves of steel.

The only reason we watched the Golden Globes was because Ricky Gervais was hosting. He's a favorite of ours and we knew what to expect. He NAILED it.

I'll take Ricky Gervais any day over any one of the "celebrities" sitting in the audience, ESPECIALLY the ones offended... very very few of the celebrities have 1/1000th of the talent Ricky has. And it doesn't hurt them to hear truth one night of the year.

Hollywood can’t take the heat. They think it’s funny when others are joked about. Glad I watched, was so sick of the same old jokes.
