Andy Murray Interrupts Reporter’s Sexist Question To Stop Casual Sexism, And His Interview Goes Viral
British tennis player Andy Murray has just been eliminated from Wimbledon by American Sam Querrey, but people are talking more about his post-game interview rather than the loss itself.
In the press conference, a reporter can be heard asking off-camera: “Andy, Sam is the first U.S. player to reach a major semi-final since 2009. How would you describe the—?”
When Murray casually interferes: “Male player.”
Pause. “I beg your pardon?” the reporter asks.
“Male player, right?” Murray repeats.
You see, Serena Williams has won 12 Grand Slam tournaments since 2009. TWELVE.
The reporter tried to laugh this one off, but Murray – who is currently ranked as the no. 1 male player in the world – was taking none of it. Social media praised Murray for refusing to allow “casual sexism”, and his mother, Judy, tweeted proudly: “That’s my boy.”
Those who don't think it's sexist are basically saying Andy Murray (and his mum) were also too sensitive. Frankly i'm more inclined to take the viewpoint of a professional male tennis player immersed in global sporting culture and its norms, than random conservative commenters here whining about how calling out sexism is a tool of the snowflake liberals, but maybe that's just me.

Conservatives don't whine, nor do they use it as a tool against Snowflakes. It is a fact however, that Snowflakes do use whining as their way of coping, while some just suck their thumb.
You're right. Conservatives don't whine. They usually shout to try and keep their medieval beliefs relevant and then wonder why people hate.
Such a childish term to keep using after all this. Really, children use these words. Pathetic bullies on a playground.
Your mamma raised you right Andy <3
Maybe his momma AND his 'male parent' as well.
His Dad walked out when he was 10. Your argument is invalid.
His mum was the one who tweeted. Hence the reference to his mum. Perhaps if his dad had made a statement to support his son as well there would be grounds to acknowledge that in a random comment.
Nick - do you see me laughing? I was merely explaining - in entirely neutral terms, so I don't know why you're offended - why Carolina might have praised the mum and why there was no casual sexism involved. It may make you feel 'smart' to go "AHA look I caught you out in casual sexism too", but in this case there was simply no grounds to imply such an attitude in Carolina's comment. Andy Murray's mum tweeted to support her son, obviously any references would be in first instance made to her. And, bef you say "lmao then y u so butthurt then about reporter's comment in a male tournament", she didn't say "ALL thanks goes to your mamma for raising you right", which would have baselessly ignored the father's achievements, and equivalent to what this reporter essentially did to women by saying Murray was the "FIRST US player".

Sheralyn, you're the 'casual' report in this case, 'casually' laughing it off.
I said mamma because I saw at his games that's all :D
Nowdays, being fair and defend equality is "political correctness" or "overly sensitive". -.-' It's better to say stupid things, spit on the floor and be proud of being an idiot? I weep for humanity.
I hate when people use PC as some sort of insult. If being PC is bad, I REALLY don't want to be the opposite... And snowflake? I'd rather be sensitive and unique every day, than a mindless, hating blob. Any day of the week. //PC as f--k.
I remember when it wasn't so much "political correctness" as it was just being polite.
Them mentioning those things just a cheap way of admitting they have no real arguments for their own point of view, or they wouldn't be so adverse to defending their position rather than talking down the opposition. 'You know 1+1 equals 2' 'WELL YOU SMELL SO THERE' I mean... sigh.
It's not an "argument". It's a fact. Casual sexism should not be let go by people who are in the public eye. It's not a "debate". It's pretty much just you making excuses for acting like a jerk.
