Rescue Goat Suffering From Anxiety Only Calms Down In Her Duck Costume
Rescue goat Polly was suffering from anxiety until one day her owner got her a duck costume that changed the goat’s life forever! The poor animal is blind, has neurological problems and is severely underweight. Little did her owner know that the duck costume she got from the kid’s section at Marshalls would help her goat go from anxious and stressed, to all zen and chill! “As soon as I put it on her, she just instantly got calm,” Leanne Lauricella from Goats Of Anarchy told The Dodo.
Before that, Polly would be frantically running around and crying if she couldn’t find her owner. She would also show some other anxiety related behavior. “She’ll find a corner of a wall in the house, and she’ll just start sucking on the wall,” says Lauricella. “So all the corners in our house have these little suck marks from her mouth.”
Well, these days are over, all thanks to the duck outfit. “There’s something about that duck costume that calms her” Lauricella says. “She goes into a little trance. She just closes her eyes and she’s out.”

As nice as this story is: how did they get the idea to put a goat in a duck costume at the first place? o_O
My aunt has a pet goat and when she was small she bought her little dresses from petsmart that are for dogs. She wore them when they walked around town.

The article says she is blind; she would not do well in a totally natural, free, environment, that's probably why she was stressed, actually. Any human or animal needs to know where they are and what's around them or they will feel panicky. The costume could be anything of course, anything that envelopes her and makes her feel like she's being touched, or hugged, or safe inside something. Perhaps a dog harness & leash, with or without a 'jacket' of some sort, could also be helpful.
Yes. I wonder how many of the negative comments come from those who've actually owned goats, much less blind ones. The goat may have been bottle fed. Inht case it is strongly bonded to humans. The duck costume is probably like a thunder shirt for dogs.

Goats are not born with a pre-set notion of what type of environment they are meant to live in! (idiots) The only instincts the have are head-butting and climbing! So long as they can do that, and are well cared for and loved, THEY ARE HAPPY! (it bears repeating...idiots)
They say that about keeping caged birds who aren't born in the wild but in an aviary or cage. Most people who keep caged birds let them out for a few hours each day anyway.

A goat in such an artificial environment is bound to be anxious and stressed. I think returning her to a more natural environment, with other goats as company, would help far more than a duck costume.
I somehow doubt a blind goat with neurological problems can do well in a natural environment

That is so CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 ..............................................U
I guess she calms down in a hat also..What a crock...Just wants attention! Also why is the goat in a freaking shopping cart??? Oh wait must calm her down...
I don't think it is about the duck costume. It is more about being comforted that she has something close "holding her" - like being hugged by someone.
We should all embrace a goat with a fluid species identity issue. I think the goat is super happy self identifying as a duck.
I feel like the owner isn't able to let go. As a veterinary nurse one of the most important lessons i had to learn was that animals rely on
Whoops hadn't finish . Animals rely on us to make the choices that will stop them hurting and living a life not worth living! Poor thing!
Load More Replies...But why would you bring a goat shopping? No matter what that would stress out a goat. Cute, but making it live such a domesticated life would cause undue stress. And sitting like that in the cart?
Do you even know anything about goats? Ever raised one? /facepalm...
Load More Replies...There comes a time to make the tough decision that it may be better for both parties (in this case "goat" and "owner") to humanely put the animal down. Take a goat dressed in a duck costume into stores (for what reason no one knows) is cruel. Eventually, everyone (and everything) dies ... sometimes it is better if it happens sooner than later.
As someone who has raised milk goats, are you nuts? Put it down? Stay away from my severely autistic grandson!

Not cute, not right, very cruel.enough with the madness.as in " terrified goat in diaper, stupid costume & shopping trolly".please people
