Illustrator Repaints Disney And Other Cartoon Characters In Her Unique Style, And They Look Better Than Original
Isabelle Staub is a US-based artist who specializes in portraiture and character design. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she uses her skills to turn cartoon characters and popular culture icons into her own unique and often super lifelike creations. Seeking drawing ideas in everything from Disney characters and princesses, Powerpuff Girls to Pennywise the Clown and Tarantino movies, Staub transforms each of these cartoon drawings with a wholly distinct style of her own. “From the moment I could hold a pencil, I was drawing and creating every day,” she writes. “Art is a direct reflection of the artist. As such, my beautiful drawings are a reflection of who I am, constantly evolving and improving and not limited to one medium or style. I let my art tell viewers a story, connecting them to a place, time, and emotion. I pour my heart, mind, and soul into every piece I create.”

Buttercup, The Powerpuff Girls
I feel like this one strayed too far from the original, it's an amazing piece but it barely looks like her.
OMG I would LOVE to see a more "mature" version of The Powerpuff Girls with such characters. WOW.
They did a one episode special with the powerpuff girls as teenagers in the original show.
Load More Replies...She's not tomboy enough, and I'm not a fan of the big pouty lips. She doesn't really have the attitude Buttercup always had.
Pocahontas, Pocahontas
The Disney Pocahantas always seemed a bit...two-dimensional, if you'll pardon the pun...
The Original is bette because there she looks more like a Native American woman. The cheekbones on the new one are to european.
I didn't realise Europeans were the only humans born with a skull that has cheekbones!
Load More Replies...Ariel, The Little Mermaid
I like it. It's unfortunate that everyone feels they have to be so critical.
Just because something took a long time to make doesn't mean it's immune to criticism.
Load More Replies...Does Ariel really have to be sexy? Looking at the original I see a pretty girl, I see her being anxious I feel her emotions...looking at the second one I see a hot woman. And not much else.
I agree. While I dont mind this representation, I don't think it is in any way compareable t the orginal image. In the original, she looks surprised, perplex, innocent and young. The other version does not display any of those emotions or characterists. She looks almsot seductive.
Load More Replies...I think Ms. Straub captured the slender, delicate innocence of Ariel here. And that amazingly detailed hair! Well done!
I do love the new art on Ariel... just gorgeous. However, she looks more sexy than wide-eyed innocent like the original. But yeah, I do love it.
It's pretty sexy for a 16 year old (Ariel is only 16 in the movie....now that you mention it it's too young to be getting married to a land mammal) but it's a beautiful work of art!
Kidagakash Nedakh, Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Kent, seeing how Kida was about 8,500 years old, I don't see how this makes Patric a Pedo or Perv. Also, It's not pervy to call children pretty. Don't be a d**k.
Load More Replies...Tiana, The Princess And The Frog
I can't decide which I like better... #5 or #8. In both cases, the character seems to have been brought to literal life, with richness and depth. Amazing work!
when you say 5 and 8 it's not obvious what you mean since they change all the time
Load More Replies...Well of they do the technology used to do these jobs has changed dramatically since then. The very first cartoon of Disney's with Micky on the boat looks like the artist were high school kids compared to the quality of today's Illustrators.
Mulan, Mulan
Its perfect!! But maybe harder for her to be a man with a face as beautiful as this :DDDD
also the features are more japanese than continental aisan
Load More Replies...I wish I could have perfect straight hair like Mulan...ironically I'm Chinese but my hair doesn't know that 🤔
Nani, Lilo & Stitch
I absolutely adore how she draws all the key features in each character so beautifully!
Okay, this one looks right with the character, but dammit, why are they all so shiny?
It's an art style, using lots of highlights. It's not really my taste either
Load More Replies...Yeah, you keep saying that. Fair to say you are a fan of the old style Disney.
Load More Replies...Meg, Hercules
It's totally reminds me of Christina Aguilera when she was younger if she would have had dark hair stunning work so beautiful
Debbie Thornberry, The Wild Thornberrys
It's so sad how some people look for any little thing to criticize in someone else's work.... I actually feel sorry for those people because it seems to me like they have a very hard time finding happiness anywhere
She should create the main characters in catoons! It seems to me she been working hard learning to draw properly. It takes days and days ..to draw skull, to learn human anatomy.. that is why her princesses are so human !!!
wowowow!!! The bubble gum looks so real. And her eyes are expressive of her attitude.👍
Penny Proud, The Proud Family
Kim, Kim Possible
If I had to guess from this picture, it looks like Kim is sassing someone again.
Another gorgeous remake... but Kim is very friendly, even when she's upset with someone so the look on her face is off. But I love the hair and the outfit... those are perfect. The original on the left, she looks quizzical, not frustrated.
Cinderella, Cinderella
Am I the only one who thinks the Disney Cinderella looks like Lucille Ball?
Ms. Straub's version looks more like a put-upon, abused, weary-but-still-hopeful young lady than the Disney version. Such talent!
Cinderella is a freakin' hottie. No wonder that prince guy went out looking for her with a shoe. Personally I would have used a brassiere, but that's just me.
My daughter looks like this when she wakes up in the morning....it's just ridiculous!
Snow White, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
I like it, I always found Snow White kind of sickly and creepy to look at, she basically has a babies face but with make up on, but here she looks normal.
The Disney Snow White is definitely a product of her era looks-wise
Load More Replies...She managed to portray the innocence of Snowwhite in her eyes
She looks wayyyyyyyyy better than that potato they animated for the movie!
So much better then the Disney version! This is my favorite, she looks so real. And has the same hair, eyebrows and nose as me.
In the original tale, Snow White is avery young: no mord than 11 year-old.Disney actually madre this cartoon keith child proportions (head slightly bigger than body). The usual proportion cor drawing adult human bodies is 1:7, meaning body lenght is equivalent to 7 heads. This proportion doesn't correspond to babies (1:3) and children (1:5). That's to five SnowWhite character its particularly childish look
I like both the original one was simplistic yet still maintained the expressiveness of the character
Belle, Beauty And The Beast
This is the first one I've seen where Ms. Straub kept that "Disneyness" in her portrait, that fresh-faced ingénue. Very nice!
Belle is my "spirit princess". I love her, I've been told that I exactly resemble her physically and personality-wise :)
tAlEs aS oLd aS tIme mEmEs aS oLd aS vInE bEaUtY aNd tHe yEeT (im sorry i couldnt resist)
Very beautiful, but she now looks like she's sad.. that is my perception at least. But still beautiful!
Jessica Rabbit, Who Censored Roger Rabbit?
I think this character is rly the only one that looks good with the painters favored expression
I totally agree. All the other pics are way too heavy on lip fillers and this one sexy look.
Load More Replies...Jessica looks amazing. I would've liked to see the whole body, with the proportions and all.
That's the 1981 book title. The 1988 movie is "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
Frankly, up until this second, I never thought Jessica Rabbit needed any improving...but holy cow!
There is a little bit of anime in the facial expressions of the paintings... fuller lips, bigger eyes. It works on this one.
Jessica should be the only one with the pucker lips .. everyone else needs to have normal lips.
Esmeralda, The Hunchback Of Notre-Dame
I really prefer the original here. She is... edgier, more individual, without the cute round chin and the full shiny lips.
Seems they've all be given those same lips fit the original or not. It really irks me as it's taking something of the character. And all that shine
Load More Replies...I like that the hair has a little shine, it kinda makes it look purple.
this is amazing, not to discredit the itger paintings but Esmeralda does it fir ne😍😋
YES YES YES... perfection. Sultry and gorgeous and I love the hair. Excellent.
Bliss, The Powerpuff Girls
Yeah, but it wasn't Bliss. It was Bunny. She around during the original show when the powerpuff girls wanted to make another sister but something went wrong and she turned out to be massively deformed so she sacrificed herself to save the town.
Load More Replies...Are there new Powerpuff girls? Are they also accidental creations of Chemical X mixing with sugar and spice? Was everything nice included? Was there radiation? So many questions..
Boy, am *I* out of touch... Bliss?? She's gorgeous, but I've got to watch more PPG!
I thought it was just me! I loved PPG but never once knew there was a 4th
Load More Replies...ah, yes. the ever-so-gorgeous Blisstina Francesca Francia Mariam Alicia Utonium
Anastasia, Anastasia
First off ANISTATIA is not Disney!!!!!! But I like it none the less.
It says Disney and others. And Technically is Disney, since Disney bought Fox.
Load More Replies...Heh! I'll bet even the Disney animators are looking at this and going "Daaaaannng!"
Disney artists can do this, but not for an entire movie without resorting to CGI, like in Frozen.
Load More Replies...Like so many others on this page, there is too much lip. It changes the overall look of the character. The art is amazing on all of them, though.
It says Disney and others. And Technically is Disney, since Disney bought Fox.
Load More Replies...Blossom, The Powerpuff Girls
Sorry to say, but this does not capture the loony, happy, yet rebellious spirit of the powerpuff girls, the quality of the illustration notwithstanding.
I'm probably gonna get downvoted for this, but it's the artist's vision, not your's. Even though it may stray from the original, the whole point of the illustration was (probably) to adapt and change the character. Just redrawing it exactly the same would be boring.
Load More Replies...I think it looks amazing. It doesn't capture the spirit, but it looks absolutely amazing! I love the hair.
They’re older - teens. PPG are preteens at the most. Still great work though.
these powerpuff girls are all too old... the girls are in like kindergarten, not high-school!
Bubbles, The Powerpuff Girls
I agree. There's no real understanding of the characters.
Load More Replies...She should've looked a little more childish. She needed a little bit more of a spirit to her. She probably won't look like a girl who would make guys drop dead
These are beautiful, some say that it does not capture their uniqe happiness but its just a style. Either way, I LOVE these!
Jasmine, Aladdin
I see why some don't like the nose but I think it gives her the Arabian touch. Maybe the nose wing could've been a little wider.
Hmm, I see what the artist was trying to do here by replicating the nose shape of the original, but the way it was executed makes the nose look boneless. Perhaps straighter next time instead of slightly curved in!
first pic jasmin before kids, second pic jasmin after the sequel
Load More Replies...Moana, Moana
She made the overall face more slender. The nose looks more European and the eyes are more realistically sized and shaped. It also appears to have more make-up
Load More Replies...I think this one looks like she's sad. In the picture she looks more like she feels left out and a tad bit angry.
You can really see how Disney has improved from Snow White to Moana drastic differences over the years having lived in Polynesia Moana is one of my all-time favorite movies my favorite character by far
I think for Moana a redo was far less needed because the original animation was already more of 3-D feel to it.
Aurora, Sleeping Beauty
Saying "I don't like it because..." it's not hate. It's called "having an opinion". Every artist who post something must prepare that some poeple won't like his or hers job.
Load More Replies...what's with her lips? this artist is fantastic but every mouth looks the same in every character
I think she considers it to be part of her signature style (fuller exaggerated pout), just like she puts "wet look" high lights on each piece.
Load More Replies...Amazing! Ms. Straub even captured the late 50's era makeup style from when "Sleeping Beauty" was made. What an eye for detail, coupled with such extraordinary talent!
So most of these pics look like they got lip injections and lost a few IQ points. The flat expressions are less appealing to me.
Pennywise, It
It is a girl and a boy! It is considered a "it" that is why the movie is called it. Pennywise itself does not know weather or not it likes being a girl or boy. So it is both.
Load More Replies...I don't think a lot of people understand that the artist is allowed to have her own version of the Characters
I Absolutely LOVE this picture! So much so I'm gonna paint this on a rock for the Painted Rocks FB Page I run and I'll make sure to give you credit for it your amazing Isabelle I'll follow you on Instagram! -Matt Trinity-
I absolutely LOVE this I'm gonna Paint this Female Version On a rock for my Painted Rock Group on Facebook and I'll make sure to give you Credit for the Picture Isabelle :)
Yeah, we haven't seen these kind of posts for a couple of weeks now.
They will change it as clicks and views go down and down. In the end it's all about money. Moderators/owner don't really look at comments at post. So it takes a bit longer. They just look at stats.
Load More Replies...Exactly and their eyes (already being unrealistically huge) doubled in size.
Load More Replies...There's no doubt the artist has talent, but for me there is not much understanding of the personalities of these characters. That's a shame cause their is obviously a lot of work gone in but all is see is superficial vessels without character.
Yeah, they seem too much like fashion models with the same expression, and by god, must everyone be so shiny?
Load More Replies...I won't deny it, the artist has skill... at drawing the exact same facial expression over and over again. I mean, I did see some experiments on creating emotion, the Disney (and original versions) are waaay more expressive. I mean, almost all of the eyebrows look exactly the same! Plus "unique style" is a bit misleading. Quite a lot of people draw in this style, or a style very familiar. That's not really a problem, but you know, don't write it in the title if it ain't true. Despite all that, yes, they are pretty, yes the shading is lovely; really mad skills. But the artist should try to leave her comfort zone a bit more often, her art would get so much better!
Agreed. Though I'll say the shading is nice, but the highlights are TOO MUCH. They look like their faces are covered in body oil, they're so damned shiny.
Load More Replies...I think they're all really good, the Power Puff girls did not give a lot to work with so I think they sort of became their own thing but the rest really capture the original characters while changing the art style.
Bubbles likes to color, and who else but a painter would wear those overalls?
Load More Replies...This is so basic. Here we go again with the huge slanted eyes, puffy lips and teeny tiny or perky noses even on characters that have normal or big noses. So, so basic.
Well i like the original. New is cool but they look like the portraits of girls with heavy makeups and cometic surgeries..
