Former United States President John F. Kennedy once said, “Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one's own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others.” Since the election the majority of U.S citizens feel that race relations have gotten worse. These poor race relations coincide with a record high in political divides, reaffirming the popular phrase that the U.S is now a nation divided.

It can all seem overwhelming at times, so stop and take a minute. Take a break from the bad news on your social media feeds, the political pundits, and hateful rhetoric. Bored Panda wants you to remember all the good things that still happen day to day and that we can all do a small part in bringing more tolerance. We have gathered a list of stories that show random acts of kindness people have shown to their fellow citizens, and we hope it will restore some faith you have in humanity. This is America: where school kids end up in a hospital (or worse: the morgue) instead of college because school shootings happen. Dear America, you have a beautiful country, but this kid should not have been in a hospital bed. Please, please solve your youth’s issues with shooting their schoolmates.

Wich made the project grew in to something much bigger on a much bigger area too. Beautiful when things like that happen. :-)

She Took Me In 15 Years Ago And No One Makes Me As Happy. We Had The Best Xmas. I Love My Grandma So Much

I grew up in a kids home (orphanage) after losing my parents. She was my key worker there as well as my carer. When I was too old to live there and had to move out.

She was retiring at the time after 40 years as a carer and said that she couldn't stand to lose me, which kinda works out great because I love her and I couldn't stand to lose her either.

Exactly. Xenophobia is an instinct, but humans don't need to be ruled by it and children demonstrate, constantly, by not being racist (until the parents teach it), just how learned racism really is.

Man In Red Needed Help With Son's Math Homework And Got It From A Stranger On The Subway

Man In Red Needed Help With Son's Math Homework And Got It From A Stranger On The Subway

So today on my way from work the guy in the red sat down opened up his folder and started reading. A few stops later the guy next to him sat down and asked him what he's studying: "You look a little confused maybe I can help?". He says his son failed a math test: "They're learning fractions so I'm just teaching myself this over again so I can help him I'm 42 & don't know any of this so I'm re teaching myself." The guy in the black informed him he use to be a math teacher so he asked the guy to quiz him and everything he got wrong or was confused about he broke it down and corrected him. By the end of my train ride the guy in the red had a better understanding. He can bring home a new method and teach his child. I really love seeing things like this especially in New York.

I think everyone should be trained in things like this or at least exposed to it. You never know if/when a parent, spouse, or even child will become disabled and need such assistance and it's stressful when you've never done anything similar.

    Awesome Professor

    Awesome Professor

A girl in my geography class had to bring her newborn to class today. The baby started crying in the middle of our quiz. When she took him out to hold him, my professor insisted that he wouldn't mind feeding the baby and rocking his car seat until she was done. This is my so so awesome, sweet professor, on his knees.

I do not personally know you, but I am so proud of you. You have accomplished so much. Losing 200 lbs. is no easy task. And then taking on a 10k. You are one super-determined woman. Even if you didn't come in first, even if you came in last; you deserve a trophy, a letter of congratulations. Maybe even a FREE vacation and a FREE membership to a gym/workout program of your choice; or Yoga Classes, Zumba Classes, etc., dancing is a great exercise. And you should also get a FREE Nutritionist. If it wasn't for the fact that I live below the poverty line, I would love to help you do all of those things. Because you already have the will to do it, you've already shown that you are capable, you deserve some help to get you the rest of the way there. Maybe we can find someone who can help with celebrating your accomplishments. And that policeman is a great guy for encouraging you and for understanding that sometimes "to protect and serve" means more than just arresting people. Good Man!!

In my country (Finland) there is a good system for the prisoners so they can usually learn a new job when they are in a prison or do some actual work when in prison. Also the social workers usually help them some months after they get out of a prison, for example if they have lost their home they can help the prisoner to find a new home and of they have a drug addiction or alcohol problem the social workers will also help them. That has usually prevented the ex-prisoners doing more crimes.

Some things have happened in the past that portray police officers in a bad light. The important thing to remember is that news channels usually make stories out of negativity and pain. People like this man are the true heros of society.

One. Hundred. And. Twelve. This woman has seen the first man in space, prohibition, women earning the right to vote, two world wars, the Vietnam and Korean Wars, the Civil Rights movement, the Great Depression, the Titanic, 9/11, early plane flights, Pearl Harbour, Hiroshima, Chernobyl, the Berlin Wall, JFK, Beatlemania, Watergate, the first televisions, mobile phones and computers, Elvis, Woodstock, Nelson Mandela's release from prison, the first African-American president, MH370, Y2K, Penicillin, video, satellites.... the first vacuum cleaners even! Then just do it. Some are small gifts, others may be large. I've often filled up gas tanks at gas stations rather then giving cash. And will buy them food and a drink. They may be trying to scam me, but everyone needs to eat and, most likely, they don't have any money to buy gas. Another time I was in the check-out at Walmart. The guy in front of me was buying his dog some chicken jerky treats. When he realized how expensive they were, he decided not to buy them. I told him I'd buy them for him. Had him wait until I checked out and he got to take chicken jerky home to his fuzzy kids. Stuff like this pops up when you least expect it. And it is one of the BEST feelings in the world to help another.

There were these two young boys, that we're trying to buy some chips. However, they only had enough money for one bag. They had two more in their hands but couldn't afford them. So of course I paid for the other two and told them to enjoy! They were really, really happy!! It goes to show, you don't have to have a lot to make somebody's day!! If you were more observant instead of looking for something nasty or indifferent to say, you would notice that on the left side of the pic next to the child, there is a man wearing a polo/T. So perhaps they ( I'm sure he is not alone) were on the move and there was nowhere to stash the sweater. Maybe he just loves the sweater.

Once when I traveled from Bergen by bus some migrants arrived on the bus, that was the year so many fled to Norway, who were going the same way as me. One that I would guess was 7-8 years old sat down with me while the big brother, little sister and grandparents on the other side. They looked so tired and tired and just 5 minutes after we drove from the station I felt something press on my arm. The poor boy fell asleep and slept heavily. The big brother was ready to wake him, but I indicated that this was all right. Slept for over an hour. After he woke up I got some snacks as a thanks. Really hope it's going well with them today.

I was on a non stop from Honolulu to New York between to Samoan's. Well all got along really well. Eventually I nodded off and woke up later. On both sides of me on my shoulders were these two guys I had never met before. The attendant saw I was away and asked he should wake them up. I said no, we're all brothers inside.

People working in food places, such as her, and the waiters, are not obligated to help people like this. And yet, it's not completely a non-work-related thing, since it's kinda part of the service. That's why I keep saying these people need a salary rise. Okay, I'll stop now.

While true that they need a salary rise I would prefer the start of that would be through a law that explicitly makes tips not count towards their salary, meaning they at least get minimum wage + tips instead of tips being part of what gets them to minimum wage levels.

When I was a receptionist in a doctors surgery, and studying for a re-take of my maths GCSE, one of the nurses would always spend his lunch break with me helping me through past papers. I've never forgotten him or the help he gave me <3

Sometimes I wonder if racism is even real because there are so many awesome people out there kicking the damn thing in the face with their kind gesture, not caring what color their skin is. Children of the modern world need to look up to these kind of people for inspiration and admiration...

Here in southern Ohio folks wear the Confederate flag in order to DECLARE that they are racist (and frequently profess other bigotries as well). They will say it's to show pride in their Southern heritage, then spew racist viewpoints, then reassert that said racism is part of their Southern heritage. The Confederate flag might have had non-racist usage in some instances in the past, but if you're seeing it north of the Mason-Dixon Line today, it's frequently used as a declaration of hatred.

I live in SC. You see these a lot down here (obviously) but more often than not it’s just viewed as a “southern thing” like sweet tea and grits. I feel that down here the people who wear and sport the confederate flag have largely serrated it from its origin. It doesn’t excuse the ignorance but I agree that anyone above the Mason-Dixon Line is sporting it as a statement.

We were walking down to a restaurant and a woman was trying to push her husband up the hill from a doctor's office to their car (NO idea how she got him DOWN the hill in one piece).....my friend took over for her and got her husband safely to their car and in. A couple of months later that friend was diagnosed with a heart attack and an aortic aneurysm (he's fine)....I still think about just how lucky we were HE didn't drop dead!!

For every 1000 good deeds NOT televised, the most wretched of them does, and makes them all bad apples. It's sad. Not all cops are racist, just as not all blacks are criminals. But it seems that nobody cares anymore. People want a label, and a cause to follow.

People frequently forget a shield is only as good as the person wielding it. If the community properly supports their shields keeps them in good repair and gives the the proper needed and appropriate care they will be well protected by sturdy shields. A community that doesn't care gets a rusty s****y weak trashcan lid to defend themselves with.

Here in Finland police cars usually have can of gasoline so they can help if there are cars that have run out of gas at a bad place. The driver of that helped car then has to vist the nearest gas station with the police and fill the can.
