Living in a college town I can attest that yes they do. It's all anyone talks about, and the traffic jams are awful. High school football here is just as bad.

Its the easiest reference for us and a football field is 100yards or 300 feet or 91.44 meters.

We say goodbye, or something like it. It's an idiosyncrasy of script writing, not Americans.

the only thing in my locker is a mound of trash.

When my relatives from Ireland come to visit, they love to play with the garbage disposal. Even the people in their 60's think it is hilarious. They refer to it as "the murder sink".

I'm American and it's a select few who do that but it's not the norm.

I'm a Brit, and chips (fries) in a sandwich is pretty common. It's called a chip butty. Chips (crisps) are also a common sandwich filler, depending on the flavour. That's known as a crisp sandwich, so we don't confuse each other.

My question is, why doesn't everyone do it, it's fab.

Chips on sandwiches are GOOD tho.. add in a bit of crunch. I like spicy chips in my turkey sandwiches from Subway. It's really good

Doritos on a sandwich is heaven! I don’t do it all the time but boy does it add a great crunch!

It does depend on the sandwich and type of chip. I like barbecue chips on a ham or turkey sandwich.

OMG if you guys haven't tried potato chips on a turkey sandwich go do that right now. So good.

As a Kiwi, we put chips on sandwiches, if you mean french fries, chips as in crisps... only little kiddies do that.

I do it occasionally! I'm from Canada though. I think it's just a less common thing people do.

If by chips you mean fries then no. If you mean chips as some call them crisps, sometimes.

It's great with soft foods like tuna salad sandwiches. Nice crunch.

an American thing? nope, lived there for a good 15 years as a kid, nope, only folk i ever saw doing this were Scots or Brits, its a very Scottish thing, also with chips/fries.

South African teenage delicacy: bread, chips, more chips, extra chips, another slice of bread. And enjoy (maybe with a coke?) So even if it's not american, then voila, it's not just a tv thing
