Restaurant Puts Fridge In Street So Hungry People Can Take Leftovers
Restaurants waste a lot of food, and even though big companies like Starbucks have recently changed their policies, a lot still goes into the bin when it could, well, go into people’s bellies.
So when a restaurant owner in Kochi, India, saw a homeless woman eating from a trashcan, she knew she had to do something. So Minu Pauline came up with a brilliant idea. Realizing that her restaurant, Pappadavada, had a lot of leftover food, she decided to put a fridge outside so homeless people could help themselves. It’s open 24/7 and anybody is free to use it. The fridge receives regular donations from restaurant patrons and other people, and Pauline herself leaves around 75-80 portions of food per day.
“Money is yours,” she told The Huffington Post. “But resources belong to society. That’s the message I want to send out. If you’re wasting your money…you’re wasting society’s resources.”

I live in CA, and I think you're underestimating your fellow humans. People are generally more decent than we all are led to believe. I've learned this through my own experience.

This is a ???? idea But. What if greedy people just came and stole all the food ( most unlikely )???
That's wonderful! This should be done across the globe, at least 70% of the Humans fighting for Hunger will be justified !
this was first practiced in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, Dubai and in some parts of Iran. :D I am delightful knowing that India has adopted this random act of kindness and practice.
Beatiful gest. But this is not possible in many countries for sanitary laws. That's not like restaurant owners all over would not like to do it!
This is a good social entrepreneurship :) Brilliant Idea :) it's time for all politician to think an open politics metodes to find an solution like this , If we going to find some solution for our own problems around the world .
Really intimidating for the people their trying to help and not nice for people who are trying to have a nice meal outside the restraint. Could have used a better location
The problem in the U.S. Is the Health Depts are wary of people who would taint the food on purpose, and people who would sue in the case of getting ill. Even the hospitals here are not permitted to bring food out to give to needy people.
Dear Irene, sorry to be off topic, but were you by any chance passing through Budapest in August 2013 (just testing my memory)
