“Theo was extremely intelligent in everything. He could find anything that was hidden — whether it was something illegal in a car or truck, or even just a treat hidden somewhere at home. He would lift his nose, follow the scent, and it was incredible,” his owner, Deiwidy de Freitas Dalmolin, shared.

“His kindness with people made a huge difference. Everyone could hug him, get close, and pet him. That helped a lot during PRF fundraising campaigns or school visits and presentations, where other dogs might not socialize.”

Theo shared an unbreakable bond with his owner, Deiwidy

“Caring for him [Theo] was both rewarding and painful. Rewarding, because I was able to give back all the love and attention he had given me. But painful, because with every walk and each passing day, I knew the moment of saying goodbye was getting closer. As his owner, I didn’t want to accept that. I tried everything possible to keep him with me longer. But there comes a moment when we must accept that their mission has been fulfilled in the most exemplary way — and we have to let them go.”

Letting Theo go was the greatest act of love

In an emotional video, Deiwidy shared Theo’s final months, capturing their daily routine and the peaceful farewell he gave his beloved dog. The heartfelt post on Instagram received nearly half a million views and countless comments, celebrating Theo’s courage, kindness, and the deep bond he shared with his family.

Deiwidy recalled: “That video really was his last walk, on a Tuesday at noon. I had no intention of posting it — I just wanted to keep it as a memory of what our routine was like during the time he was affected by the tumor. It took me three months after his passing before I could even watch the videos and edit them. When I finally posted, it was only to have it documented; I never imagined it would reach so many people. But from the comments, I can see it helped and motivated many to believe even more in this love and to care for their pets with maximum dedication until the end.”

Theo’s legacy is one of courage, loyalty, and love. He showed that heroes don’t always wear uniforms—they sometimes have four paws and a wagging tail

Deiwidy shared, “Animals don’t care about your class, your height, your gender — none of that matters to them. So adopt, have an animal, and allow yourself to be embraced by the purest love that exists in this world!”

Theo’s story touched thousands of hearts online

I am a Brazilian digital artist who loves transforming imagination into hyper-real visuals. I work with artificial intelligence and image editing to create what I always wondered as a child: how would our favorite characters look in real life? Over time, many of my artworks have gone viral and were featured in international publications. I have recreated realistic versions of cartoon characters such as Disney and The Simpsons, imagined how celebrities who died young would look today, and even gave modern faces to historical figures like Mona Lisa or Shakespeare. Beyond entertainment, I created Para Não Esquecer, a social project that revisits memorable criminal cases in Brazil. My goal is to honor victims, keep memory alive and remind society that justice and empathy matter. I also write for Bored Panda, where I create articles featuring artists, photographers, rescue stories and feel-good moments from around the world. My work aims to highlight creativity, kindness and emotional storytelling. In everything I do, my purpose is the same: to touch hearts, evoke emotion and make people feel something real.

I had to let my dog of 13 years go and as hard as I try I just can't move forward, I miss him every single day, I love my other dogs but nothing seems to fill the emptiness it's the price we pay for having that special bond I guess

I cried when my dad died, I cried when my mother died and my in-laws, but I never carried the kind of grief that came with losing my dog, now almost 5 years ago. I can remember my parents with gratitude now, but my dog, I just can't go there yet.
