Sometimes, the funniest moments happen when nobody is even trying to be funny. A perfectly timed movement caught in a still shot, a random reflection, or an unexpected coincidence can turn an ordinary street scene into something eye-catching.

Portuguese street and documentary photographer Gil Ribeiro has a great eye for spotting these moments and capturing them in his images. Based in Lisbon, he photographs everyday life through clever compositions, amusing coincidences, and playful interactions that often make his photos look like visual jokes.

Born in Brazil and raised in Portugal, Gil moved to Germany at 21 to study cinematography. After graduating as a Director of Photography from FH Dortmund Film School in 2014, he spent several years working in filmmaking. His interest in photography eventually grew into a passion for street photography in 2017, and his cinematic background continues to influence the way he captures everyday scenes.

He's also passionate about bringing photographers together and co-founded the Lisbon Street Photo Fest, which held its first edition in 2025.
