Raise your hand, Pandas who still have a notebook! (A handful of hands slowly come up.) Now, raise your hand if you write in that notebook! While we listen to the humming silence, I have to admit that in the past week, I scribbled out a single post-it note with my groceries list. The fact is obvious: typing has pretty much replaced the good, old and beautiful art of handwriting. (I am not looking at you, doctors!)

Cursive writing has become a skill on its own. Some states, such as Indiana, have decided to go on teaching it in school. Others claim that cursive should be cherished like any other great tradition whose disappearance would be a cultural tragedy.

So without further ado, we have some fantastic pen-spiration to write a letter, a Christmas card, or a diary entry with the most beautiful examples of handwriting. Scroll down below, upvote your favorite ones and be sure to check out Bored Panda’s previous lists with the perfect handwriting here and here.

Looking at this makes me wonder how long it takes to learn this and be able to write so pretty within an acceptable time frame. My handwriting is terrible, maybe I should practice more.

I used to do this kind of thing in high school. If I saw someone's handwriting that I liked, I'd spend hours copying and perfecting their penmanship. It took years for me to decide on my own handwriting and even now it's got a few little quirks I picked up from others all those years ago!

To find out more about the art of handwriting and all the powers behind this undeservedly forgotten skill, we spoke with Lauren Mooney Bear, the chairperson for the “Campaign For Cursive” and the “Cursive is Cool Contest” for kids grades 1-8. “Campaign For Cursive” is part of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation (AHAF). Lauren has been a handwriting analyst and graphologist since 1985.

If you’re wondering whether you have a talent for handwriting or not, Lauren said that anyone’s capable of it. “Handwriting, cursive writing and even calligraphy can be learned by anyone and improved upon with practice. There is an endless variety of personalities and the form of one's writing will ultimately reflect the personality and thinking processes of the individual writer.” Lauren added that calligraphy is a highly stylized form of written communication, yet it will still yield some personality traits.

Moreover, writing styles can be developed through practice. Lauren shared some tips on how to do that: “Choose a simple 'copybook' or style you wish to adopt. Practice needn't be arduous or painful. With only a short period daily, a person will master a good script in no time. Using colored pencils really helps to embed the cursive movements into the memory.”

She continued: “We also suggest playing light classical music during practice to help relaxation and improve rhythm and writing fluidity. One of the fun programs, for adults and youth, is called CursiveLogic (links below), another one is New American Cursive.”

Moreover, handwriting can be thought of as brainwriting: all of the electrical impulses that make you 'you' are in your writing, the handwriting analyst explained. “It is normal for handwriting to change as your thinking and emotions are changing but your core personality traits will always be there.”

That means that handwriting can tell more about our personalities than we’d think. “If a person tends to be cerebral and introverted with good attention to detail, it will show up in the spacing, size of writing, slant, even the punctuation and upper loops, among other things. If someone is outgoing, verbose, the center of every party, it will show in their handwriting. You might find larger, far right slanting script, open tops on the lower case o's and a's, small or no margins, and other indicators.”

the letters are beautiful, but I actually find this very difficult to read. it's the kerning. the letters within each word are spaced too far apart, which makes it hard for me to understand where a word begins and ends. it just looks like a very long string of letters. it's not IMPOSSIBLE to read, but I do find myself having to look a bit harder to distinguish the individual words.

My mother writes like this for everything. It has become a laughing point at holidays. My kids open the card from grandma and instantly pass it to me because I can still read my mother's writing. Younger generations that didn't spend HOURS trying to write in cursive do not understand this.

They make pads of blank paper, with an insert that has dark guide lines. You place it under the page you are writing on and you can see the lines through it. Voila, your writing is straight across each page.

Incredibly, even complex personality and behavior traits can be seen in the writing, like “manipulative traits, honesty, sense of humor, sarcasm. Handwriting can show math or artistic aptitudes.” Lauren also said that an expert can even see if a couple might be compatible or if one is well suited for a particular type of employment. “Of course, the writing must be seen as a whole, one trait alone means nothing,” she added.

When asked whether handwriting is being pushed away by typing, Lauren confirmed that many of our youth are not being taught or are overwhelmed by the use of technology. “However, it is good to know that at present, 25 states have mandates that some sort of cursive/handwriting be taught in schools. Scientific research has shown that the students who learn cursive at a younger age do far better in secondary schools and in universities and tend to excel in math, science and the arts,” she added.

Liberation is greater than the abundance of food and clothing, this feeling is indicative of humanity. Where there is no freedom of thought, no freedom of intellect, no freedom of expression, there is no liberation. We have to try to solve the problem of food and clothing of the people with the aim of this liberation. Satisfaction of hunger is necessary because the nectar of the soul cannot be realized if the thirsty person cannot be satisfied. We have to solve food and clothing with a big goal in mind, otherwise it will not take us far. Nafis Education and Humanity - Hossain Chowdhury of Motah

“The good news is that newer technology will be using handwriting. Google and other tech companies are developing apps and input devices which will help to turn the tide. We are already seeing a rise in YouTube videos about handwriting, how-to's, and handwriting analysis,” Lauren explained. She concluded that once the tide begins to turn, it will move much faster than expected.

Sheila Lowe, president of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation (AHAF), also told Bored Panda that “throughout history, people who knew how to write have been more highly regarded than those who were illiterate. It’s really important that as a society, we give our children the many benefits that come with learning this important lifelong skill.”

The president at AHAF added that, “Dr. Jane Yank, research chair of our organization, the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation, has recently updated our white paper on why handwriting is important in a digital age. The research that supports the importance of handwriting training is coming in so fast and furious, we can hardly keep up.”

Harder to do this in chalk. I have never mastered the use of chalk and I have very good printing. The first time since 8th grade I had to use cursive was for a job that involved me handling blank checks so I had to submit a hard writing sample. I had to ask another applicant how to make the letter Z.

I think I might like this person. I mean, someone who has the ability to create such an interesting and precise and beautiful font has to have even more of the same in his cadre of wonders. Along with that, his clarity of wording, that would earn him some bucks in the "how to operate" - "how to assemble" - "every other how-to . . . " manual, set of instructions. Nothing against Asians, but their language is so very different from our own, they are often confusing in such instructional narratives. (I assume this is a "he" by the caption on the photo.)

Yeah trust me not all of them. It's Russian grammar notes. But in general my Russian students do have better handwriting than my Americans did. Bureaucrats though tended to have terrible handwriting. Stalin's for example is awful and often done in colored pencil/ crayon.

Love this, the writing, not the subject. And really like that this person wanted the "r" to echo the dotted "i", the letter "k", and the tail of the capital "T". The capital "C" is also part of the elongation style, just curved. And even the writer's initials (guessing that's what those "marks" are) in the lower right of the picture has a long first "l" (?). The thickness of the letters reminds me of calligraphy, but more modern. Anyway, the whole style jibes. Really nicely done. Wish I could see the name of the pen or roller ball or gel pen used. Or maybe a pen brush? Thank you for sharing.

First of all, I hope the writer had Workers' Compensation insurance. By the time he/she got to "Cinnamon", I am sure the hand and arm were hurting! LOL! Next, did this person write "free hand"? If so, WOW! If not, and the person used a stencil of some sort, then WOW again. Only thing, it would take much longer with the stencil. Also hope that person had some kind of art smock of bib with a face mask - all that chalk dust! Next, what happens if a name has to be erased and something else written in its place? That looks like what happened to: "Chocofudge Brownie"(?) and "Mint Oreo" and "Black Raspberry" (all the way to the right and down near the bottom of the list). But even they look good, just not as fancy as the other names. Nonetheless, this is Out-absolutely-standing!!! :-)

It's a sort of chalk-marker. It's liquid chalk put into a marker, so it doesn't squeak or anything when writing, but still erases easily.

It is relatively nice to look at, but just a tad bit hard to read. The spacing if a little uneven and the letters are not quite uniform, so all of this adds to the hard to read aspect. Tinkering is great, but if possible, please keep it so that it makes the writing legible at first look. Thank you for sharing and sorry this is late as a response.
