We need food to sustain ourselves every single day. Without it, we quite literally could not survive. Even so, being a basic necessity doesn’t make it cheap. Lately, even tossing cherry tomatoes into your cart or daring to grab two avocados instead of one can feel like a real splurge.

That frustration is pretty much universal at this point. But what you actually end up paying depends on where you live. To see it for yourself, we’ve rounded up posts from r/whatsinyourcart where shoppers from around the world share their hauls and totals—scroll down to compare.

No way. Even if the 5 frozen pizzas are $5 each that is still $25. That BBQ sauce is definitely at least $3 each, so that's another $9. The two chickens alone cost $11.60. So we are already at $45.60. Sorry to be so skeptical, but these type of posts only support the lie that anyone can afford food for their family if they can just shop "smart".

We used to have a great Farmers' Market here but not anymore. All they sell now is trinkets and wind chimes. What's worse, there's people who buy up little baskets of cherry tomatoes and produce at the supermarkets, then retag it for resale at our Farmers' Markets, calling them "homegrown", which they definitely aren't. You can taste that they're supermarket plonk as soon as you eat them.

Top marks for self sufficiency & being "responsibish" "adultish". Keep pushing boundaries. FYI lean away from "popular" brands. Your $ go further utilizing store brands. Also super "chunk" is 100% win. Geezer ok, don't forget to add "prediced" garlic. Onion & a can of diced tomatoes to your canned sauce. OK, I need to stop...you're awesome!
