Lidl is cheap. The meat is at a reduced price, probably the shelf life is soon due. However those energy drinks and American ice cream are products I never buy - too expensive, too awful.

That's a good point. I have a free "membership" at both grocery stores that saves me money. You just have to register a phone number and enter it when you check out. I also have one at Petsmart that gives you a $ credit every time you shop.

No way. Even if the 5 frozen pizzas are $5 each that is still $25. That BBQ sauce is definitely at least $3 each, so that's another $9. The two chickens alone cost $11.60. So we are already at $45.60. Sorry to be so skeptical, but these type of posts only support the lie that anyone can afford food for their family if they can just shop "smart".

We used to have a great Farmers' Market here but not anymore. All they sell now is trinkets and wind chimes. What's worse, there's people who buy up little baskets of cherry tomatoes and produce at the supermarkets, then retag it for resale at our Farmers' Markets, calling them "homegrown", which they definitely aren't. You can taste that they're supermarket plonk as soon as you eat them.

Also super "chunk" is 100% win. Geezer ok, don't forget to add "prediced" garlic. Onion & a can of diced tomatoes to your canned sauce. OK, I need to stop...you're awesome!

Cheap turkey is AMAZING. Brine it in salt and herbs for 3 days and high heat roast, it comes out perfect. Use meat to prep homemade frozen burritos. Use bones and bits for soup. You can get 40+ meals for less than $40.

You guys have no idea. In New Zealand prices are insane for food. Petrol hit US $2.33 a litre yesterday Lamb leg US$40.77, beef mince US$13.98, 1 kg cheese US$11.65. You walk and buy a handful - literally - of things and get a $100 bill (US$58.24). Wages not risen, and unemployment through the roof, even experienced skilled people not able to get work. I live on US$239 a week, this is the Disabled benefit and Carers benefit. Sibling on pension (i am their carer) gets US$266 a week. Insurance (house, car) gone up 916% since 2000, council rates around 300% (more in a lot of areas), power much the same.

Petrol where I am is NZ$3.03 (usd 1.70), cheese NZ$12 1kg (usd 6.98), beef mince NZ$19/kg (usd 11.62), lamb leg NZ$25/kg (usd 14.53), factor in that the US uses lbs, not kg. I rarely spend over NZ$120 a week for 3 adults and 3 cats. When it's just me and the cats NZ$50/60 p/w. Minimum wage has risen every year for the last 10 years and benefits have risen in line with inflation yearly also.
