Snow Shuts Down Oregon Zoo, So Worker Skis To Check On Animals And This Is What He Finds

When the Oregon Zoo had to close because of snow, a worker skied in to check on the animals. Turned out they were having a blast in all that snowflaky goodness! We see polar bear Nora playing in the white, sea otters ‘otterly’ enjoying the snow, and harbor seals loving the icy swim… However, the best bit is Samudra the Asian elephant, probably seeing the snow for the first time – and its reaction is EVERYTHING.

The polar bear is just trying to remind everyone that snow is where he belongs, and it's a cruel prison without it.

Better than being on a melting block of ice drifting away from a rocky wasteland that has no food for you any more. Unfortunately.

Great to see natural behaviour from the polar bears and seals. I think the elephant was the most active one I have ever seen. Obviously enjoying having something new to interact with.

Just to be clear, though, dozens of zookeepers and facilities workers trek in to the zoo EVERY DAY, regardless of the weather, to make sure the animals are healthy and well cared-for!

Some Zoos do rehab orphaned animals, and serve research / educational purposes but it's definitely a very fine line. Too many Zoos do not operate like that, and when run as a business animals aren't treated well. The other sad truth is there are very few environments humans haven't encroached on, usually in a negative way.

Sad when you think about how maybe this snowfall is one of the few the baby polar bear will see.

All that this video shows is that these animals below to their original habitat. This is just a glimpse of how happy they are when they are where they belong. FYI- I am sure those seals are being asked to roll around..someone is instructing them on the other side of the camera

I really don't feel sorry for these animals. They live in million / billion dollar homes. They are taken care of very well. If you took them back to the jungle or wherever they wouldn't survive. Most of these animals where born in zoos I believe .

The snowfall this year in Central Oregon rivals the record winter 25 years ago. Great to see that some Oregonians are genuinely enjoying the snow!
