I’m a big fan of people with opinions, always have been. I remember reading Charles Bukowski and Hunter S. Thompson’s books as a teenager and hoping I would grow up to have the guts to always tell it like it is. Well I didn’t, I grew up to be a professional photographer who sugars coats everything. Ask anyone who has had the pleasure of working with me, I’m like that bouncy mom from Toddlers & Tiaras who drinks the Gogo juice, seriously.
So when I happened to stumble onto Alethia Rains Photography, I fell in love. This fine artist doesn’t sugarcoat anything, she’s so real and rough around the edges. It shows in every beautiful photo she publishes. I’ve never seen her post on Facebook about how lovely her life is, how wonderful her clients are, how perfect this session went, which is extremely rare in our industry. If you read a typical photographer’s posts (mine included) on Facebook you would think we all live in Pleasantville.
Alethia just earned her Masters in Environmental Management and considers herself a part-time photographer. She has three beautiful children who are frequently her models, I use the term model loosely as she captures the real child and real life, not a perfect child and not a perfect life. She lives in Jacksonville Florida with her family, hates cleaning almost as much as I do, and takes beautiful photography artworks.
Her most recent beach session of her daughter is one of the most stunning pictures I’ve ever seen.
