When it seems that the year 2020 can’t get any crazier, a team of scientists has just revealed that they detected gas in the atmosphere of Venus that could be produced by living organisms.
Stunned by the discovery, they now suspect it could put the planet in the realm of the inhabited world. Clara Sousa-Silva, one of the study’s authors, stated that “As crazy as it might sound, our most plausible explanation is life.”
And people on the internet are turning on their best-known coping mechanism for any chaotic news, which is basically memeing the discovery big time. #Aliens and #LifeOnVenus are now trending, so get ready to dive into alien tweets galore that prove we haven’t maxed out major news yet for 2020.

Venus is the brightest object after the moon that you can see gleaming in the night sky. It reflects most of the light that falls across its atmosphere, but it turns out, there’s something really bizarre happening in the Venusian clouds.
A group of scientists has just announced that they detected traces of gas in Venus’s atmosphere that, from what we know about this planet so far, shouldn’t really be there. The scientists were left scratching their heads looking for a reasonable explanation. In the end, they came to a conclusion that this phosphine gas, which is very toxic, is produced by microorganisms.
That doesn’t mean that alien life has been detected, though. At least, not yet. But scientists say the phosphine gas is most likely created by some form of life, or alternatively, it could be a result of a chemical process that they haven’t seen before.
Since Venus is known as one of the most hostile planets in our solar system, scientists believe that if they manage to confirm the “evidence for biology occurring in a place that nothing on Earth could survive in,” it would open totally new horizons for what we know about life.
“It would throw the doors open that a multitude of biological activity could be happening, perhaps all over the Solar System," planetary scientist Helen Maynard-Casely told ScienceAlert.

For those of you that don’t know, tahdig is the best part of Persian cuisine. It’s the fried crispy part of the rice on the bottom of a pot of basmati rice. You cook it intentionally to break off into crispy fried bits. I made some last night and pretty much all the time. It can be made with potato, rice, or sometimes bread and even we do it to spaghetti. You can use saffron to make it more flavorful but a good oil and some salt are just as nice. This only works with basmati rice, it’s not nearly as good with other types. .... The literal translation btw: tahdig = bottom of the pot

This pic misleading the surface Venus isn't calm. Any mission there will be some kind of vessel that floats in the thick atmosphere.

Reading some of these makes me think a lot of people don't seem to know the difference between microbial life and a fully fledged civilization.

I hope it's not from the probes we've sent previously to Venus. Like if it's Earth germs stuck to them that dislodged in the clouds and has managed to survive. That would be a very boring explanation.

I'd like to just hibernate through the rest of 2020 and maybe all of 2021 as well. Of course I'll probably wake up to discover Trump is still president, covid is still raging with 20+ mutated strains and we're in the midst of WW3.

Because Earth has microscopic bacteria which evolved into us. The microbes didn't disappear.
