This was done to cover up a big window that a student had broken. Before I rendered and carved this it was a big piece of ply. The carving is a re-creation of a Sacred site my students and I often visit near our school. The figure depicted is Baiami (creator spirit, pretty well the main squeeze when it come to Aboriginal Gods) he has the morning star in one hand and the moon in the other, the sun's (Yhi) rays are coming from his head. I then carved mundi (irregular footprints that lead bad spirits away, a common feature at the entrance of sacred sites) for protection. The students then added their handprints so this is how a safe, happy place for all of them.
