It is no secret that a lot of us have hidden things from our parents at one point or another. Whether it was that one time you snuck out to a party you weren’t allowed to attend, or opened that box of chocolates you weren’t supposed to touch, it is very much inevitable that parents won’t know everything about what their children do.

Someone online, in the r/AskMen subreddit, decided to ask men about the secrets they’ve hidden from their parents, and they delivered plenty. The question went viral, collecting 13.8k upvotes and prompting 5.4k comments. Scroll down for the whole list, consider upvoting the entries you found the most interesting and leave a comment!

Have been with my second wife for30 yrs, married for 25 yrs. My mother has disliked her from day 1. We have 2 kids & when the kids were little 4 & 8 , my mom made a derogatory remark about them being dumb illiterate brats( both kids have grown into fine upstanding adults who both graduated from College. One is a Welder for a National Railway ( makes over $100,000 a yr, other one is a nurse in a hospital $120,000 /yr. I told my mother that you don't deserve to be their grandmother if you can't say anything nice. She tried to say she didn't say anything bad. I called her 22 yrs ago & cut off all contact with her. My sisters have sided with their mother& cut contact with me. I have not regretted my decision. My kids will always come first

One of my best friends parents growing up loved me but hated another one of our friends. Everytime they hung out, she just said she was w/ me. One time, we were all at her house after school & her parents came home, so we literally hid our friend in the closet 😂

I used to have a bunch of Guy friend as a little girl. One older one was in love with me And when we were teenager, my parents left us in our home alone. On their run for errands, they heard some suspicipus rummors about the boy. They rushed home And I Just sat There alone because the boy already left, we had fun playing pc games, I kicked jim off a gym Ball, we had a blast, he was a great behaved boy, his siblings the same (bless their mom she had to have some miracle to keep all those boys so amazingly mannered) but my parents never trusted him since that rumour

Men Online Share 30 Things They Kept To Themselves So Their Parents Would Never Find Out When I was a junior in high school, my mom and I got into a low speed accident with minor damage to both vehicles. Later that month I was so exhausted from school that I decided to ditch. I drove on the backroads for 10 minutes send parked, and then slept. My mom found out and was furious at me. I lied and said that it was because I wasn't feeling good and I had headaches and some bs like that. She took me to the doctor and they found that my C3 vertebrae was fractured on top of having a tumor growing on it. I ended up having a gnarly 10 hour spinal surgery that honestly completely changed the course of my life. And we only found out about it because I couldn't think of any other b******t excuse to use

In boarding school, I noticed a kind of weird lump on her back but it wasn't hurting or bothering her in anyway. However, she wanted to go home for a birthday so she went to the school nurse who sent her home. Guess what they found??? Her vertebrae column was invading her spinal cord and brain space. Ended having a long surgery and two months recovery!!!!!

Men Online Share 30 Things They Kept To Themselves So Their Parents Would Never Find Out My mom raised me in a pretty aggressive christian household. When we finally got tv, I discovered HBO had like a 5 minute preview of movies/shows whatever. Then I saw the late night s**t. Well our tv was locked down with a passcode. I had to be like 11 or 12 but I put a vhs in then hit record. I then told my mom that I wanted to watch a animal documentary but it was locked tv14 for the animal violence. Well, she had me turn around while she scrolled the password in. After she left for work, I rewinded the vhs and got the password. Sorry Mom!

Kids are smart. My 8 year old received a tablet for Christmas. I put parental locks on it immediately. And it was a hard one with letters and numbers. I always made him leave the room when I unlocked it (from past experience). He somehow figured it out, changed it so I couldn’t get it, swiped my bank card, opened up his own Amazon Prime account, manually entered my card, and downloaded a bunch of games. He then proceeded to spend over $700 on coins and purchased another $200 on Pokémon items from his Amazon account. Natalie from Amazon and I spent an entire night trying to figure it all out. I finally had to wake his behind up at 5:30am to make him give me the new passcode. I have said that he’ll either be working for the CIA one day or will be running from them. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My parents put a passcode on the TV so we couldn't watch MTV. Since I was the only one who could ever set the VCR up, I knew that I could actually watch MTV without the passcode. My dad could never figure out how we did it until I told him many, MANY years later. He said I outsmarted him and deserved every second I got to watch MTV.

Men Online Share 30 Things They Kept To Themselves So Their Parents Would Never Find Out While my parents were at work, my older brother started cooking french fries in a cast iron skillet and cranked the heat until the oil was boiling. He left the stove unattended for a few minutes and came back to a raging fire. He took the pan, spilled hot grease on the cheap kitchen tile, opened the sliding back door and tossed it into the yard before hosing it down. The microwave that sat above the stove was completely ruined and two or three floor tiles were badly burned. So my brother goes to Lowes and finds the exact microwave model, overcharging his card to pay for it. Comes home, tosses the old one, installs the new one. We replaced the tiles with a box cutter and super glue and exchanged the burned tiles in the middle of the kitchen with tiles from the back of the pantry. They never suspected a thing

In high school I'd call my house before my curfew from a pay phone & as soon as my mom answered I'd say, "I got it mom. Its for me." Like I answered the phone upstairs. She thought I was in the house & I'd pray to god she didn't check on me during the night. I pulled this off 3 times.

I grew up in a smaller town and when I was 17 I was already out of school and working full time. I was hanging out with much older people and partying a lot. I am allergic to alcohol and so my mom was never concerned. I do not like eating leftovers and my mom knows that but there would be times that I wod come home and eat all of the leftovers in the fridge. I wouldn't even bother to take the containers to the kitchen and they would be spread out across my floor. I always believed my mom had no idea that I was coming home with the munchies until years later when she told me that she knew I was coming home high because otherwise I would never have eaten the leftovers but at least I was cleaning out the fridge.

My friends always snuck IN my house. My dad thought I was sneaking out so he nailed my screen on. I was a pretty good kid and solid student. Nothing was ever said. My screen would just be nailed back in place. My room was pretty big with a full size bed and full size sofa with extra room. Everyone would come in and we would just hang out and watch movies. No drinking in the house, nothing nefarious. Just hanging out. I'm 53. They still don't know. I did sneak out to learn how to drive a 4 speed truck. We lived in a private neighborhood and we never left it. That was really the only time I "snuck out." My dad was a football/golf coach at my HS. Lol

Men Online Share 30 Things They Kept To Themselves So Their Parents Would Never Find Out There's a little entryway off on the side of my mother's house and into the basement. I realized how easy it was to sneak in and out of that thing when I was sixteen, and asked if I could move my room to the basement to "feel like I had my own space." Actually, I snuck people in and out of it constantly. My girlfriend at the time stayed over two or three times a week, and I would sneak friends in constantly to drink and party with me. Either that or I'd sneak out on weekends and go party and hang out with people. My mother is a very very conservative Christian, and if she ever found out, she would lose her mind and probably disown me. I think about this sometimes.

My sister moved into the one downstairs bedroom for awhile so she could sneak out the window. She got caught once after Dad heard her leave and he shut the window...then waited. He watched her check every door and window until she finally rang the doorbell. He made her move back upstairs where she still snuck out (had a ladder on the side of the house!)

Men Online Share 30 Things They Kept To Themselves So Their Parents Would Never Find Out I got my drivers license a few days after I turned 16 one summer. I told my mom and dad that a friend and I wanted to drive a 100 miles away to go help my friends grandpa with chores around his house because he was getting to old to do them on his own. My mom and dad thought that was a great idea and even offered their brand new car for us to use the week we would be gone. Thing is, we didn’t go to my friends grandfathers house, we drove almost a 1000 miles (each way) to Las Vegas. After we had driven a few hundred miles we disconnected the speedometer (gear driven) so they wouldn’t know the real miles we racked up on their new car. Had the time of our life. We slept in the car and cleaned up at truck stops along the way. This was back in the mid 70’s and the strip wasn’t even part of Las Vegas yet. We managed to slip into a casino and put a few nickels in a slot machine right inside the door, but never got caught. It was a road trip that I’ll never forget. Parents never were the wiser.

My mom seemed to know EVERYTHING I did/wanted to do/tried to do, etc lol Your parents have to either be extremely naive or they just know and let you do it anyway, for yall to "get away" with all this stuff lol

The strip WAS part of Vegas in the 70s. It was Las Vegas Blvd, just like it us now. Even though part of it is called Paradise, it's still in Las Vegas. It's not in New York city or something ... My grandfather was a musician. He played in casinos on the strip in the 70s. I feel like OP actually drove to Reno ?

When I was a junior in hish school, my mom would take the power cord to the computer. I new where the computer was boxed up in the attic, so I went and got that cord and kept it stashed for when she would take the cord. Seriously pissed me off. Her reasoning? I was on the internet too much, and not watching my siblings like I was supposed to or doing my chores, and hogging the phone line (ah, dialup). I would go online and copy and paste a couple stories from FanFiction. net to Wordpad to read offline, check my emails, and do research for school. I would do my chores when I go home from school, I made sure my siblings had snacks and were intertwined(they were pretty well behaved for me), and start cooking dinner at 5:30, while she sat on her ass watching TV. I would only spend 2 hours at a time online doing research, and take an hour break, so, no wasn't hogging the line. Meanwhile she would spend far longer on the internet than me, so I didn't understand her logic. Still don't. 😅

My mom would cut my cables, then make me work for neighbors to earn enough to replace it. Thing is, while I was grounded, she wouldn't allow me to leave the house. Which meant I couldn't go to the store. So I'd need to give her the money to go. So I thought power cables were $70 until I grew up and had to replace one my dog chewed on.

My report cards were genuine. I was fine showing my mom bad ones. It was good report cards I dreaded showing. Why? I dunno, possibly something to do with the fact that I can't stand praise. I've always hated it. Likely has something to do with my father never once having praised me or said he was proud of me. I mean, I was "getting intimate" with a girl once. Afterwards, she said she was ecstatic that I was so good. Even that mild praise broke me, and I ended up crying. And I despise that about myself. So I go out of my way to avoid doing anything that really praise worthy. Luckily my wife knows and so avoids praising me.

In HS in the 70s I used to forge my mother’s and some of my teachers signatures on various attendance-related documents. My home room teacher taught math in the same classroom as my math teacher, different hour. One day I strolled up to my home room, HR teacher standing at the door. “Just a minute, I have something for you” he said. Stepped into the room and came back out with my binder, opened it to the front pages, and showed me several practice pages of neatly forged signatures: his, my French teachers, my mom’s, etc

My father and I have the same name and my voice changed at like 12, so in high school I used to go home at lunch and call in saying "Hi there, this is Firstname Lastname and I'm calling to report Firstname Lastname came home at lunch. Yup, father and son, same name, heh. Yep, thanks, have a great afternoon." Excused absence and *technically* not actually lying. :D

I did that once when I was in high school. Except as I was happily driving around with a friend we drove right past my Dad. Oops! I tried to tell my parents it was just another car that looked like mine, but they weren't buying it. Ordinarily my Dad would have never even been in the area in the first place - it was just a really crappy coincidence . Luckily I was the "good kid" compared to my sibling and had already been accepted to college, so they let it slide. :)

Anytime I was in trouble and used a password to lock the tv or computer they always used a significant date so it was just process of elimination. I also found almost all of the Christmas presents every year because they would just put them in the garage under a giant blanket. Like all of a sudden in mid-December a mountain of stuff covered by a blanket would appear in the garage, don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out.

As a mom, we know the presents aren't well hidden. We put them there so you won't accidentally find them. We assume/hope you won't be too selfish to ruin our pleasure at seeing your face when you open them up the first time on Christmas morning.

When I worked at a University I had some guy come in and try to bribe me to falsify a document that said he graduated from our program. (Apparently his employer had discovered he had no proof of his supposed Master's degree and he was in danger of being fired) He slipped me $100 cash and his business card, and asked me to type something up. (I was the program manager of a Master's degree course in IT) It was so unexpected I didn't even realize what he was asking me for - I honestly couldn't figure out why he was giving me money. :) Once I finally caught on I went straight in to my boss's office and got him. He threw the guy out but kept the business card. I don't remember if my boss called his employer or not - it was a long time ago. But how stupid can you be? I hope the idiot lost his job. After that my coworkers were constantly (jokingly) asking me how much it would cost for me to break various laws for them. :) More than $100, that's for sure!!

Dropped out of high school my senior year. Wasn't gonna graduate cause I screwed around freshman year and didn't have enough credits. So I sped up thr process. Got my GED (still hold the state record for highest GED testing scores 10 years later, so thats something). But I later went to job corp and got my diploma through them. Granted, my school wasn't sending my records, so I was "in class" long enough to earn my credits without doing a lack of work, cause they didn't know where I was or what work I should be doing.

Then, every Friday night at the local blockbuster, their faces stared back at me. Oodles of copies. I always turned around all the copies on display. Anytime they were on tv, my parents grabbed a junk vhs & taped over whatever WAS on that vhs. So I woukd be watching a tape of rocko’s modern life, then BAM! Homicidal leprechauns. I was too little (like 10yo) to reach the pedals, so I was on the floor pushing on the brake until they could find me. Worst substance they ever caught me with was cigarettes. They were going through my room after they found out I'd been stealing. Had a good 3 year streak going on. They found a whole 2 large laundry baskets full of stuff I'd stolen and questioned me about all of it. About half was "given" to me. The other half I admitted was stolen. Including about $300 worth of stuff from various shops on the AFB we lived on. What they never found out about was the money and the yugioh cards I'd stolen too.

The toxins are fine. Wild fish are fairly resilient to small amount, and I think less than 1ppm counts as a small amount, in the case of the various byproducts. The real danger to fish is the boom. Its loud for us, but its deafening to them.
