Women Wish There Was Old Spice Women’s Deodorant, Come Up With A Name, And Old Spice Deliver

There is a debate going on over whether there is a difference between men’s and women’s hygiene products or not and why oftentimes, products targeted to women are more expensive. Also, we all have probably noticed that men’s and women’s products have their distinctive smells, in the sense that we can tell just from the smell if it’s meant for women or men.

Twitter user @radtoria pointed this out, because she got tired of the fragrances of women’s deodorant. After ranting about it online, she was contacted by the deodorant brand Old Spice and they offered to send her some of their products.

More info: Twitter

Twitter user rants online that she’s tired of women’s deodorant fragrances and catches the attention of the deodorant brand Old Spice

@radtoria, also known as Victoria, is a full-time student at University of Washington so she spends most of her time studying. Also, Victoria told Bored Panda that a lot of her time is also spent with her partner, 2 kids and playing pinball.

A little more than 2 years ago, she tweeted her wish that Old Spice would make deodorant for women too, because she was fed up with weird fragrances like baby powder or gentle breeze.

She expressed her wish to smell like she is not to be played with rather than like a diaper. And you can’t argue with that.

We asked Victoria what were some of her favorite responses and reactions to this thread and her answer was, “My favorite responses (and I still continue to receive these years later!) are from the people who take the whole thread seriously and actually believe women aren’t allowed to buy men’s hygiene products in my home state. They range from sweetly gullible to totally outraged.

Apparently, people didn’t see the issue and advised Victoria to just buy the deodorant she wants and that provoked a sarcastic tweet from her saying that it is actually illegal for women to buy men’s products in Washington state.

What was meant to be a funny tweet, at the same time pointing out the stereotypes of what women and men should smell like, became something nobody was expecting.

Old Spice said that they wanted to send Ghost Mom ‘something special’ and she didn’t know what to expect: a cease and desist letter or the ‘Eagle Fang’ deodorant

Most people were putting their money on the deodorant and they were absolutely right

A couple of weeks passed by after the last tweet in the thread and a new one was added. Turns out, Victoria got a message from Old Spice. They said, “Hey Ghost Mom, We’d like to send you something special!”

Victoria told us that when she got time to tweet, a good amount of her tweets would go viral, so it wasn’t a new thing, however, she said, “I definitely never expected Old Spice to reach out to me directly.” When asked if she didn’t feel suspicious about a company asking her for address, she answered that she felt safe, because the account was verified.

The company didn’t mention what that ‘something special’ could be, so it seemed that Victoria thought there was a possibility she was in trouble, because she put up a poll with two options: that they were going to send a cease and desist letter or the ‘Eagle Fang’ deodorant which she invented in her original tweet. Most people were convinced that it was the latter and they were right!

Victoria was very happy after receiving the gifts and the brand even sent her a T-shirt with their logo

Old Spice personalized their packaging and put on the name Victoria made up

The package included not only deodorant, but some merchandise too. The deodorant was personalized by making a modification of their existing deodorant ‘Hawkridge’s’ label. The name ‘Eagle Fangs’ was put on and the birds had fangs next to their beaks. Victoria gets a lot of questions, how the deodorant smelled like and she told us that it was fruit-puch scented. The lucky lady still likes how Old Spice deodorants smell, but since then she switched to cruelty-free brands.

They even thought about small details, like putting fangs on the eagles’ beaks to match the name

Old Spice promised the deodorant would be a permanent product if the tweet would get enough likes

Old Spice promised to make ‘Eagle Fangs’ real if their tweet got 1,789,456 likes; however, the tweet was posted almost two years ago and it is sitting with 1.5k likes, so probably the new deodorant isn’t coming any time soon.

But it is likely that ‘Eagle Fangs’ would be a profitable product because other women agreed that they like men’s deodorant more and were convinced that it works better too.

People in the comments agreed that women’s deodorant just isn’t it

Eventually I realized editing gives me the most enjoyment and I'm focusing only on that right now.

I love the smell of old spice because my father wore it religiously and has since passed away. Every time I smell it I am reminded of dad.

My daddy wore it. He died when I was 10 and the smell still reminds me of him and feeling safe. I like quite a few men's fragrances but old spice is total retro gold.

If Old Spice works better, maybe I should since that since my "water lily" deodorant doesn't work very well. It is really cool old spice did that for her.

Odd? No. I hate it though, and would love to see more woodsy/musky/spicy scents marketed to women like me. I'd also love some body powder at a reasonable price that doesn't have that signature "baby" scent; after some searching, I found some with a neutral scent but $$$.

I love it when companies take things like this and play along. A company with social media and a sense of humor is priceless!

I'm a woman and I buy the Old Spice one that smells like trees. Fick the haters. So what if its marketed to men. Does it have to cost 15% more and come in pink before you'll buy it?

I use the Mitchum Clean Control Scent in the invisible solid and I've been using it for over 20+ years and it is the ONLY Deodorant that works for me and I love the smell and have no qualms tell anyone who asks me what deodorant I use or why I smell so good. Men get the best smelling things while women are sold these powder smelling, overbearing, headache giving, doesn't work all that well products. No shame in my game buying My Men's Deodorant!!

It's ridiculous that scents have a gender assignment. Why can't men smell like lillies, and why can't women smell like Eagle Fangs?

My daughter has worn Old Spice Deodorant & used the matching body wash since she was old enough to need deodorant. Of course, since we're both single atm, guests are endlessly wondering why we have Old Spice products on the shelf in the bathroom. We get comments like "Okay who are you hiding?"
