Maybe We Could All Use Some Therapy…

With so many thoughts racing through my mind. I came to bored panda today looking for an Art Challenge.

So these are just a few paintings done by a friend of mine, Van. I have so many of Van’s paintings. Van was an amazing Artist. Funny thing is that nobody knew that Van had a hidden artistic ability, not even Van. Not until about 6 yrs ago, Van and his wife, Jewel had a Domestic dispute that landed them both in DV classes and Anger management. It was then and there that Van discovered his hidden talent.

Born and raised by Army Ranger and Psychiatrist parents, Van was your stereotypical army brat. I met him when he was 15. My neighbor’s son brought home “the new kid”. They were always playing video games like Halo, Rainbow 6, GTA, Conker’s BFD, etc…

Then, these boys and their friends grew up, got jobs, married, had kids. People tend to lose touch with one another as years go by. Not this group. They are still in touch with each other, 27 yrs later. Then the worst happens. Somehow Van gets into trouble with the police. He’s wanted. I had left town for a week. As I’m driving back into town, I see in the distance a lot of police lights. And they’re just a few blocks down the street from my house. Someone died. “Officer involved Shooting” had occurred. I see Van’s truck being towed. That’s when it dawned on me. Because of the chaos I went inside my house. But I knew it was Van. I just wanted to tell the panda community a little about Van. He wasn’t a bad kid. He had a few issues but we all do. He seemed more at peace and a lot calmer when he was painting.

I guess one of my points is that if you ever feel like the world is out to harm you, there is help. Whether it’s talking to someone or digging in the dirt or creating art, it is therapeutic. Maybe we could all use some therapy…
