My name is Omid Asadi, I’m a 38-year-old former engineer and champion boxer from Iran, now a UK-based artist. Unique art for me is the way of looking differently to this world and around myself. I work across various art mediums but first gained recognition for my intricate leaf cuttings.

My leaf art is rooted in my childhood when there was a deep emotional relation between me and nature. As a child, I used a needle to create shapes on leaves or fallen rose petals. I didn’t take this practice further until much later; in 2012 I decided to use leaves as the basic art material.

I use cutting and carving techniques to create forms and shapes to transform an ordinary leaf into a delicate work of art through a very time-consuming process. In general, this detailed art is my way to depict the difference between the ways we see our surroundings, to show we do not tend to notice the ordinary things unless they are brought to our attention.

These leaf cuttings art lovely. I have a craft knife set that i used to do paper cuttings sometimes. when i do fine details i sometimes have an issue with tearing. i suppose a finer gauge of paper would make the difference. but, im wondering how do you do your fine cuttings without the leaf crumbling? is there something you use to keep it moisturized?

I was wondering the same thing. I do paper cutting and it is very difficult to do the finer cuts. I can't imagine doing this. Really intricate and amazing. Well done you.

Very nicely done! Are those sycamore leaves? They're quite a bit larger than the sycamore leaves we have here in Arizona.

Holy c**p, I can’t even begin to imagine how many attempts they must take! One little tug, or even wind, can break the artwork! I am nowhere near as patient nor talented.

So incredible! Not just the technique, which is unique and astonishing, but the designs themselves are beautiful. I love the self portrait and the gears. I would love to know what you do to preserve the leaf so it's malleable enough to work with and doesn't dry and crumble with age.

Yes, I have the same question! How is the leaf preserved so that it doesn't crumble with age? Beautiful work!
