Last Night I Did The Fandango On A Piece Of LEGO!
Welcome to the wild and wacky world of parenting, where every day is an
unexpected comedy show. In our household, it’s a delicate dance of laughter and
Lego landmines. On any given day (or night!) chaos could erupt as one of us is faced
with the chaos and joy of parenting our young brood.
Picture this: Midnight Lego Dash
You, half-asleep, tiptoeing down the passage after your exhausted little one has
loudly told the household how thirsty they are. Suddenly your heel tramps down on
an outlying ‘one-piece’ from a veritable Lego landmine across the floor. The result? A
dance that rivals any moonwalk, accompanied by an impromptu symphony of
exclamations.
Picture this: Hide and go seek adventure
If any of you have played hide and go seek with kids that don’t really understand
the rules, you’ll know the chaos that ensues. My excitable three-year-old hides in
place for as long as it takes me to finish counting and start the slow stealthy walk
around the house to ‘seek’. She jumps out from behind the curtain shouting ‘here I
am’, bringing the game to an abrupt end (before it even started!). Not to mention
when my five-year-old son gets to hide and we never find him! 3 hours later he
appears torn between pride that he was never discovered in his secret place, and
outrage that we stopped the game and had lunch.
Picture this: Blanket Fort Madness:
Who needs a fancy vacation when you can embark on a thrilling expedition into the
depths of the living room blanket fort? Just beware of surprise attacks from the many
library books that you have used to weigh down the edge of the blanket on top of the
table. We are snuggled with the torch and popcorn bowl when a child shoots their
feet into the air in laughter and dislodges the precarious pile of heavy books that you
thought was a good idea to weigh down the corner of the fort. Tears and daylight
spill into the fort and the rebuilding process has to begin.
Why do our forts never look like the ones on TV?
Picture this: Artistic Wall Murals:
Picasso has nothing on our little artists. Last week as I cleaned inside their shoe
closet I discovered the once blank wall had been used as a canvas for their
masterpieces. Crayon creations and finger-paint murals add a touch of abstract
elegance to the forgotten corners of our home. I even discovered a little doodle or
two under the bunkbed where my oldest budding artist used to take his time to fall
asleep. Who needs wallpaper when you have toddler art installations?
In our house, the laughter is loud, the chaos is constant, and the love is endless.
Parenting – where every day is a sitcom episode, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We embrace the delightful mayhem and find humor in the little surprises that
make family life a one-of-a-kind comedy show!
