It Took Me 3 Years To Make 18 Lettering Compositions On Paper To Create A Unique International Calendar
I’m a paper artist Marina Talamaska, called talamaskanka on Instagram. And this is my collaborative artistic project – Almanac/ Calendar- which I made together with 18 calligraphy and lettering artists from different countries.
I asked 12 calligraphists to make a composition for 1 translated and written word, each in their native language. They used Arabic, Siamese, Korean, Chinese, Tibetan, Georgian, Cyrillic, Latin languages for the name of the month. Also, six lettering artists made 4 Openers in English representing the name of the season, and 2 Project Covers in English and Russian. In my turn, I then later recreated all of them on a paper (adding volume, 3d, color).
The main goal of the project was to show the uniqueness and beauty of each culture through its writing. The point is to highlight that visual art is a unique language that can unite many people; it is beyond borders, beyond time and politics.
