"a couple" is actually photographer Sebastiao Salgado and his wife; they founded and Instituto Terra and reforested all this land!

Finance expert Ryan Monsurate explained to Bored Panda that the reason why women’s clothes have small or no pockets is simply because that’s the choice that’s offered by most brands at the moment. “I think if larger pockets were offered, they would sell well. I don't believe this is market equilibrium,” he said. In other words, it’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem because for trends to change, trends need to change.

Monsurate added that purses aren’t as effective an alternative to pockets. Especially when it comes to one of the most ubiquitous tools we use all day long, our phones. “Phones in purses aren't as accessible as phones in pockets,” he said.

Unfortunately, not all differences are pleasant and fun. Bored Panda also reached out to writer and founder of Voice of Salam, Elizabeth Arif-Fear. One of the issues she’s interested in is the differences between men and women. Especially regarding the wage gap, gender inequality, and how to solve these problems.

“The facts speak for themselves. Less than 4% of CEOs in the world's 500 largest corporations are women, for every dollar men earn, women earn 70-90 cents and women spend 200-1000% more time than men caring for others (children, elderly family members, ill relatives). This has to change,” Arif-Fear told Bored Panda.

New Zealand Supermarkets Are Finally Trialing Less Plastic On Their Fruit And Veggies

New Zealand Supermarkets Are Finally Trialing Less Plastic On Their Fruit And Veggies

Photo on the left is what it's currently like buying fruit and vegetables from a supermarket. Even the 'odd bunch' ones down the bottom right are meant to be less wasteful because they're not the normal perfectly shaped/colored ones, but still come in plastic bags. Photo on the right is the current trial in a handful of supermarkets around the country. Here's hoping it's successful and they roll this out nationwide!

Trial failed btw. Turns out people don't like their blueberries touching each other and the supermarket was having to throw out large amounts of unsold food. Also the picture is misleading, yes you can have all that prepackaged food but right next to it is the unpackaged items so people can choose for themselves. And Countdown are aware of their environmental impact and realised their biggest pollution was coming from old refrigeration units and the coolant used so are upgrading all of there refrigerators around the country, less exciting than plastic use but just as important.

According to Arif-Fear, the best way forward is for men and women to support each other. She advises women to openly share their stories of mistreatment in the workplace and to highlight the differences in how they and their male coworkers are treated.

She also advises men to avoid “mansplaining” and instead be allies to women. “Ensure there's a seat at your table, ensure you value the contribution of women. Let's all look out for each other and ensure that gender inequality becomes a thing of the past.” So while some differences in the world are intriguing to look at, others need to be tackled head-on.

I wish I could wear a mask. I tried but I would just blackout so much...not anxiety it’s part of my neurological condition. I rarely go out, only to the doctors or hospital appointments but I wear a badge to say I am exempt from wearing a mask because I have had abuse and if looks could kill I’d be dead. I have no immune system so wearing a mask would be a hell of a lot safer for me not just for others, but I can’t be blacking out every couple of minutes. However people who don’t wear masks because they just don’t believe covid is real or that wearing one does nothing, they need a mask glued to their faces, or be shown a covid ward in person!

Everyone's breath/sneeze/song/speech releases droplets from the respiratory tract. This display is about the vector, not the disease. This display demonstrates that masks inhibit/partially contain the vector, and therefore its burden of diseases. This is true whether you are talking bacteria or viruses or shreds of DNA. Masks reduce the spread of airborne respiratory droplets. Wear a mask.

The lines aren't bacterial growth, but Sharpie used to label the back of the Petri dish. Also, anyone who is butt hurt about viruses being smaller than bacteria, yes they are. But SARS-CoV-2 is carried by DROPLETS of spit and snot, which are larger than bacteria, and is how surgical and cloth masks reduce transmission of the virus to near-negligible levels.

Does that mean that the cloth will never decompose and still be considered plastic trash when thrown away?

Not really. Decomposition of plastic waste is particularly a factor of the density of the material. Plastic bottles are more dense than fabric made from the same plastic, so if a bottle would take the oft-cited 500 years (they don't if there is UV exposure) to decompose then a shirt would take probably 150 years or less because of the lesser density.

Makes microfibers, microplastics that will pollute water and oceans. Expensive and dirty technology making additional pollution. Better to recycle plastics to energy. And make clothes from cotton.

Recycling is important but that does not mean we need to dress ourselves in plastics. It's the equivalent of wrapping ourselves into a plastic wrap every day - it is not comfortable and the fabric does not breathe thus people get sweaty af and those with sensitive skin can develop skin issues (rash etc.). Moreover the micro-plastic particles get washed down in the washing machine right into the water and ocean. Not the most effective way.

And now all of that plastic is converted to micro and nano fibers to pollute the environment with!

Yes they do. Every time you put them in the wash, they further contaminate the planet's water supply.

I wonder if they shed microplastics in the wash. One of the recent findings in microplastics is that polar fleece sheds small particles during the wash that gets into our groundwater. Many of us wear fleece a lot and it never occurred to me. It apparently floats above the filters at water treatment plants so it doesn't get filtered out.

It takes a lot to change your fundamental way of thinking. It is far harder to admit you were wrong than it is to be right from the start. My dad was homophobic because he was born in 1948. Just a few months before he died he told me how excited he was to vote for Pete Buttigieg, casually adding that his husband seemed like a really great guy. So proud.

According to the website the whale survived a killer whale attack CRC-10724 has been know for more than two decades, a whale that survived a killer whale attack that carried away most of his or her left fluke. That's really cool that you can follow the paths of these whales and even though it's unfortunate what happened to her tail, it's cool they are almost like fingerprints and can be identified.

poor whale..... looks like it was hit by a propeller with those repeated cuts, and the total loss of 1 side of their tail. (gawd humans can suck sometimes).

    Gareth Bouwmeester

Actually, the left fluke (side of the tail) was damaged from an attack from an Orca. Secondly, those are not repeated cuts on the tail, it is natural coloration and formations (birth marks) that are unique to each whale. Much like your fingerprints.

I feel a bit sorry for kittens when their adult teeth grow in. The baby and adult teeth are in their mouths at the same time. It makes sense - they're predators and they can't afford to be toothless. However, during that time, their mouths flat out hurt, and there's a lot of drooling and sadness until the baby teeth fall out.

Yup. You got that right. It's a golden plover chick. The European golden plover tend to breed in the tundra, where the chicks would need to be able to hide among moss, pebble and the like to avoid predators.

It's not the size difference that's so amazing, it's the complexity of the folds - correcting for the different sized heads, it suggests that dolphins' are every bit as complex and analytical as ours.

A wild dolphin nicknamed Dolphy in the south of France in the 90’s would visit the beach to give children rides. And encouraged them to do so. He never took a child out of their depth. He knew the measurements. Wonderful animal.

The only reason Biden interrupted was because he realized he wouldn’t be able to talk otherwise. I feel if Trump took it seriously and quit acting a tantrum having toddler the interruptions would be less than a dozen each

The debate election president was the most awful debate with trumpette who is so poorly brought up. He was rude and very unkind towards President Biden when he kept talking about Mr Biden's son. Here in Europe we were shocked to hear trumpette being a nasty little stupid idiot. Thank God it's over for this monster. He has ruined the States.

One poped up in my front yard. It smelt awful, the neighbors called the police, claming that it "smelled of a decomposing corpse" The police had a good laugh when they came over and we explained that it was the plant. We were thinking about removing it but it is gourgeus, so we kept it its about 5"6, P.S it smells awful to keep away predators

First, Genus is capitalized, species is not...so "Amorphophallus titanium" is how it should be written. More importantly is the translation of the genus and species. "Amorpho" means misshapen". Titanium means really, really big. You know what the other root word means...

The graphic would also apply to wounds sustained from a pistol round versus a rifle round. It's not just the size of the projectile, the amount of kinetic energy it carries is a major factor as well.

You wouldn't have to, it just has to be the correct format. There are a few common ones which are still produced in small batches, and you could post it to be developed (there's a few specialised labs which can be found online) or learn to do it yourself. It's fascinating stuff.

The air quality doesn't adhere to city limits. Oddly enough that's the one where the pollution does not appear to be originating from the city.

Hmmm, not sure about this one. The “tattoo” looks like it was drawn on with sharpie.

Fresh lines like that always look fake. I have a couple that first looked like they were drawn on with liquid eyeliner. Until the redness and bruising set in. This tattoo probably vanished because palm skin (hand skin in general) peels and changes the most often. I have a finger tattoo that is barely there after 2 years.

this is why any decent tattoo artist won't do work on palms, feet, or elbows..... because the skin grows out 3 times as fast as the rest of the body, therefore preventing the tattoo ink from properly embedding in the skin. ie the tattoo ink grows out with the skin as it sheds.....

I got a tiny tattoo on my toe. It's not this dramatic, but 20 years of socks and shoes have taken a toll, to be sure. I keep thinking I'd like to refresh it. Then I remember how bad it hurt and.... NNNNNOPE!

I believe it's a project that the mother's been doing for years.... ie this image is 5 years after the last time she created a similar "half face comparison". It's not saying her daughter is 5 years younger than her.

Irony that countries are willing to spend more on inventing ways to kill humans more efficiently, than they are willing to spend on keeping them alive / educating them. Jeepers humans can be stupid in their choices sometimes... :(
