I took this series of photographs in Indonesia, while travelling from Jakarta, crossing Java and ending up in Bali. While travelling, I met many interesting people. I felt drawn to capture their uniqueness. Sometimes only getting a brief moment to get their attention and look for approval to take my photo. In that split second focusing on their eyes as they met my camera.

I didn’t get to talk to most of them. I didn’t get to find out anything unique about their lives. We didn’t share the same language, our cultures and life conditions were profoundly different. I was so genuinely interested in the people there. They were so kind, so honest and so different than the ones I normally photograph. I found it challenging but deeply rewarding.

They have not spoken a word to you, yet I believe the images tell so much about them. They are uniquely human not vastly different from you or I.

One of the most interesting faces I photographed while travelling in Indonesia. We was a gate keeper in one of many temples we visited. So much wisdom and kindness in those eyes.
