I Wrote A Hundred Original Songs In The Style Of Established Artists.

I don’t know what possessed me to create ‘Popsketches’ but the concept became – ‘Original songs in the style of established artists’.

Each track is +/- 2 minutes duration max, put together in Garageband, sometimes homage and sometimes parody, and often lurking somewhere inbetween.

The idea was to try to capture the essence of the artist in a brief musical snapshot, a kind of Anglo-Belgian Weird Al Yankovic.

Once beginning, I went for the low-hanging fruit, doing bands I like or have an affinity with (80s Electronic for sure) but the remit was so large that no-one was off limits.

I’m currently at ninety-three but by the time you read this I will have surely reached the century mark, taking in such diverse artists as Sparks, Underworld, Frank Zappa, The Kinks and Devo.

Being short in length certainly helps to distill the key elements into a concise sonic facsimile.
