The summer between 5th and 6th grade we discovered that I was double jointed in both hands. To make things worse I injured my hand playing tetherball one day with my family. I ended up having to go to occupational therapy and going there for about 3 months. We learned that if I didn’t fix my hands now I would have to get surgery to repair both of my hands when I’m around 30. The surgery wouldn’t allow my hands to work as well as they do now. I do still have pain sometimes when I write and draw and it has had an effect on my artwork. I started to draw at a very young age and had been working up my skills. After this incident happened I was not able to write or draw for a long period afterward and had to learn to write with my left hand. It had a tole on me mentally too since art was my escape from bad thoughts and memories. When I started to be able to draw again about almost a year later when I finally mustered up the courage to do so, I found out that I couldn’t draw. Or at least not how I used to. I started to become very self-conscious about my artwork and wouldn’t show anyone. I stopped drawing again. Almost another year later at the start of 8th grade, I am finally starting to try to do art like I used to.
