I Make Re Imagined Mythological Creatures In Gothic, Steampunk, Pastel And Other Color Styles

I love a good story more than anything, I’m currently on a quest to find and highlight awesome creatures, symbols and characters from world mythologies and folk stories.

Another thing I love are urban subcultures, some deal with feelings, concepts, others revolve around alternate realities of what the world could have been (or will be(?)), and others yet are mostly aesthetic expressions.

I have quite a lot of fun combining the two, also I try to make a living out of putting these designs into print, and decorating people’s homes and bodies.

If you like my artwork and would like to see more, I hope you’ll visit my shop ‘Abysm Internal’ and help me share it. With so many ideas down the line, there is nothing I want more than to have the opportunity to continue creating more!

RELATED:

    Gothic Screaming Medusa

There is no other character that screams injustice like her, killed by a “hero” with the purpose of weaponizing her head.

Made also with other face expressions, and a myriad of color styles.

This is one of my favorites, in Gothic style.

Gothic represents the dark feelings, nostalgia, existential dread, and intense awareness that everything beautiful will pass, among many other topics. Sometimes it mixes with horror, sometimes it mixes with humor.

    Gothic Ankh

A symbol of the cycle of Life and Death and reincarnation. On this image, the scarab carries the tiny seed from life to its death.

    Bloody Goth Treble Clef Dragon

    For music lovers.

    Bloody White Goth Skull

Initially inspired on the Calacas (Mexican Sugar Skulls).

    Pastel Goth Kitsune

This magical Japanese creature from folk stories has a knack for shapeshifting, tricks and mischief, but they could also be friends and lovers.
They are also the messengers from my favorite god, Inari.

    Pastel Black Taiwan Sword Lion

In Chinese culture, Lions are traditionally protective icons and guardians, hence we often seeing guarding entrances.

This lion holding one or two swords is particular from the port area of Anping, in the city of Tainan, Taiwan, where it is placed in outside walls, particularly facing weird angles that could “generate bad fengshui” so to speak (or in more Western and casual terms: bad vibes).

The meaning of the characters 趨 吉 避 凶 is roughly: To seek/tend towards good luck, and avoid calamity/bad luck.

I called this color style ‘Pastel Black’.

    Harajuku Pastel Daruma

In Japanese culture Darumas are a type of “doll” that brings good luck, particularly with wishes.

When you first get one the eyes should be blank, you’d paint one eye to make a wish, and finish the second eye when your wish is fulfilled.

Harajuku is a famous district in Tokyo where for a long time people would rock the most amazing outfits, often made by themselves. There were many styles and color schemes (or freestyles), among them Fairy and Yami Kawaii, which were based in Aesthetic style.

    Steampunk Octopus

    Because Octopuses are the best.

    Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is a common motif on most ancient cultures around the world.

As a Wicca/Pagan twist, a pentacle was included.

Although it took forever to make along with the Norse version, I had a lot of fun making these knots and can’t wait to have the opportunity to make more in this style.

Yggdrasil – Norse Tree of Life

This ‘Viking’ style design includes not only Yggdrasil, but also the Serpent Jörmungandr encircling the world and bitting its tail, the Eagle at the top, the dragon Níðhöggr at the bottom chewing on the roots, and the wolves Sköll and Hati, chasing the sun and moon to eat them, should they succeed the Ragnarok would start.

    Sigurd Kills Fafnir

Another ‘Viking’ style piece (that took about a month full time to complete), this artwork shows a moment from the Volsunga Saga and Nibelunglied.

    SPOILER ALERT
This is when Sigurd stabs the Dragon Fafnir from under, and claims the Ring of the Nibelung along with the treasure… and the curse.

Also present are the falling linden leaves that would prevent Sigurd from becoming fully invulnerable, allowing for him to be murdered later on.

    Dark Fantasy Illustration & Dragons

Occasionally I like to paint full illustrations.

My artwork then becomes home decor and accessories

I spend hours making these vibrant mockups for my shop, and once something is ordered, my professional printers, create the vibrant and high quality prints and ship them for me, always made to order, by hand, one by one.

    Art in Bed

These are some pictures of the prints made by my awesome customers and included publicly in their reviews.
