My three year old daughter told me one night before bed that she wanted to ride on the back of a lion. I thought it sounded a little bit too dangerous, so I decided that she wasn’t gonna. Not that night at least (not even thinking about the logistics). But what I COULD do was paint her doing it. After all, her imagination is just as as real to her as this physical reality of ours. So with that in mind I put her to bed and went over to my tablet and started drawing.

When she woke up the next day she told me she had dreamt of a lion.
– “Where you riding on it’s back?” I asked.
– “Yeah!” She said, screamingly with eyes glaring.
– “Like this?” I asked, showing her the drawing.
– “That’s me and my lion! We were doing this and then that and we were…” and she went on and on about her dream, completely immersed.

After that, I just continued drawing her in cool places with inspiring animals, hoping they’d somehow become real for her.

The last picture is a bonus. It’s me and my wife taking some alone time in our daughters’ dream world.
