11-Year-Old Kid From Nigeria Creates Hyperrealistic Drawings, And The Result Will Blow Your Mind

Meet Kareen Waris Olamilekan (also known as Waspa), an 11-year-old artist from Lagos, Nigeria, who is quickly gaining international recognition for his life-like drawings. This talented young man is currently studying at Ayowole Academy of Arts, calls himself a “bitty artist”, and dreams about seeing his works in a museum someday.

Olamilekan has been drawing since the age of 6, and the main subject of his hyperrealistic works is usually portraits, although he sometimes goes beyond them, too. “I draw my friends. I draw cartoons, comics. I draw illustrations from textbooks and newspapers,” Olamilekan told BBC. “I draw hyperrealistic pencil works.”

Every drawing that Kareen creates stuns us with the details that are not something very common for an 11-year-old. Kareen says that his inspiration comes from everything that’s happening around him, especially his family, but also he reflects a lot on two of his artistic idols – Nigerian artist Arinze Stanley, who also specializes in hyperrealism, and Italian Renaissance master Michelangelo.

The most famous artwork that Olamilekan created is called “Daily Bread” – it depicts a person eating in sweat and tears. “My family, we work hard before we put food in our mouths, before we eat,” explains Kareen. “That’s what inspires me.”

Scroll down to see these incredible Olamilekan’s works for yourself.

I like his paintings. Perhaps because I will never be able to do such things :)

As.the kid see in an interview; it's all about patience & practice. Art is no magic trick nor a talent anyone else can't do. It starts with really observing & copying. Like most artists don't do it from memory, they use a model or a pic.

I like his drawing, especially his smile. You will be no more hungry, you and your family will have any foods you can eat, no more sweat, no more tears. I wish you have all success in your life and many more come to your ways.

Wow, I wonder how he traces his drawings. Most people making "hyper realistic" art, traces with some form of "cheating" technique. Like a light table, and then it's really just a matter of spending a lot of time. I can't imagine this little guy having any of that tech, and that makes it very impressive! And 11 - that's crazy!

He uses a very simple, traditional technique: a grid. You can see it as well in some of the photos.

There is so much talent out there in the world! So happy that he gets a chance to study and do what he loves.

What does "hyperreal" even mean? Should we be waiting for some kid that draws "Super Hyper Realistic" or perhaps there will be a "ultra hyper realistic".

Where the money going to,this young man and his family should and must be comfortable. I hope he is not exploited, the horrible story of greed in Nigeria.

Tbh his drawings are ok, some mistakes and a lot of space for improvement. But the fact that he is 11 and is able to draw like this is amazing. There is no doubt he loves drawing and trained hard to achieve this. Keep up with the good work!

Yeah, the only one there that stood out to me as something shockingly good was the Daily Bread one. I've seen a lot of work like the other drawings from kids in my school.
