Guys’ Experiment Reveals That Wearing Hi-Vis Vests Gets You Everywhere For Free, And It’s Scary
David Allegretti and his mate Sean decided to conduct a little social experiment. They wanted to know just how far they could get by wearing official-looking hi-vis jackets. And based on his findings that he wrote up in an article for Vice, it seems that they got pretty far indeed.
“There’s just something about uniforms that garner an almost naive trust,” wrote David. “People trust uniforms. Most of us obey the word of those clad in uniforms.” First they tried to walk straight into a movie theater without paying, and guess what? It worked. Next they tried their luck at the zoo, where once again they waltzed straight in without a hitch. Deciding to up their game, they headed for a Coldplay concert. Know what happened? Read on to find out. The experiment is a fun way of highlighting how easy it is to get stuff for free, but it also reveals how scarily easy it is to get past security without being noticed.

“Sean even gave the ticket clerk a cheeky “g’day” on the way in,” wrote David. “We couldn’t believe how easy it was”

And guess what? It worked! “All in all, the experience had just proved…that you’ll never know if you don’t try”
“I guess if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this: Go get yourself a hi-vis vest. And that’s all you need to know about life”

Share on FacebookAs interesting as this post is... With all of the terrorism and shootings happening in the world... It is scary to see how trusting people are of uniforms... The security of these business was compromised especially with the concert. You can also see in the last photo of the concert the guy was holding a bag (this could have contained something dangerous in a different situation), if these people were (they are NOT as far as I know) terrorists this could have ended horribly. The businesses involved in the breaches of security should issue an apology to the public. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh... I am just so fed up of terrorism, shootings, war and to see that this could have gone into a horrible situation sickens me. *What do you all think? Put your reply down below, I am genuinely interested in all of your opinions on this topic.*
I agree-their stunt wasn't cute and funny, but an eye opener that we need to step up our game and be more aware. They could've been bad guys
Load More Replies...I would have stopped them over the shoes. OH&S is head to toe
Load More Replies...I'm just picturing hi-vis vests becoming the next trend in concert wear. Like, a sea of neon yellow and orange.
I am incredibly freaked out by this. What the hell? Where are all the security measures we're supposed to have in place? Reminds me of my recent trip to Sydney Domestic Airport to pick up my mum. There was a backpack hanging on a railing outside a departure door. There were airport staff walking past it and not one of them gave it a glance. I stood there for a good 10 mins watching staff ignore it before alerting security to it, and they still did nothing. I was absolutely appalled.
This is so simple, yet genius! Wish they tried it at more places, and this was a longer series. Curious to see how far they get before they are caught! lol
that's the Christmas spirit!!!! Just call it what it is, no need to far reach with hypothesis' and whatnot. Just a couple of guys having some fun. You people with the negative comments are the ones who went to the negative zone.
Pulling this off in Australia is only a touch more impressive than pulling this off in canada would be. #toonice #tootrusting
Also works if your wearing overalls and carrying a tool box, or a doctors/lab coat,
This is at least as much about white privilege as it is about security.
HOLY C**P! How in the world is something like this so-called 'white privilege'?
Load More Replies...Same goes with a DSLR Camera in events. i can get inside without having the proper credentials. I just make sure i carry the camera high enough for the bouncer/security person to see it.
Lmao I'm gonna count how many times I have to tell you to shut up now. 4th time.
