There is no school without rumors. People like to gossip and spread intriguing information, doesn't matter whether it's true or not. I’m sure we all have heard some weird rumors at school, so I got curious about what was the craziest hearsay the Bored Panda community members have heard at their school that turned out to be true.

There was a rumour that one of the new boys that started had spent nearly a year locked up in a mental facility because he was a psychopath. Apparently he had burned a building down just so he could watch it! He'd also tried to kill a teacher at his last school! A nice girl I met on my first day warned me to be on the lookout because she didn't know which of the new kids it was. I explained to her that I was not a psychopath, but a sociopath, there are subtle differences. And I didn't burn a building down just so I could watch it burn! I did it because the building was declared too unsafe to knock down and there was a housing crisis in our area. We needed the space for new builds so it seemed the logical thing to do! Also I didn't try to kill a teacher! I don't even know where that came from! She was quite chill about it and we remain friends to this day.

I lived in a 3 bed house with my parents and 4 siblings, We needed a bigger house so I could have my own room. I figured we could get one of the new houses. So it was actually a selfish motive. Lot's of sociopaths help others, it make you notice us, appreciate us and thank us, which is great for our ego. It also makes it easier to manipulate people if they feel indebted to us. I've spent years learning how to treat other people and to contribute to society. It's never going to be instinct, but I like to think that in a way, it means I understand morals better than most people because I've had to lean them.

By reading the comments the person left, it‘s good to see they got help now. They did it for selfish motives. Describing how the feeling of manipulation or when someone breaks rule for them feels satisfying has nothing to do with being a sociopath. Not judging. But i‘m glad he decided to have therapy. I haven't thought about this in years... but in 4th grade I had this friend. He was extremely emotionally disturbed. Had a horrible life etc. Everyone called him Joe Luna - tic. Note I said he was my friend. I was his only friend...well his only real friend, he of course gravitated towards the other trouble makers. But I saw more in him. Anyway one day I was getting ready for school and had the radio on and news story broke about a child that committed suicide late the evening before after basically a stand off with the police. His face flashed into my head. I got chills and then dismissed it as they never said a name because it was a minor. By the time I gotten to school I had forgotten all about it until I got off the bus and saw everyone crying. Turns out it WAS Joe. What was worse was because I was his friend and sat right next to him the teacher made me clear out his desk THAT day. (no couth at all) What pissed me off even more was that was the day I learned that people are fake af. Everyone crying when they all HATED him. It made me sick. Joe would be about 41 now and wherever you are, I hope you're happy and safe.

I think I know what you're trying to say here, and yes. But thankfully there was no social media back then. I can only imagine how many other people we would've lost. We just dealt with old school in person bullying. I think that's why we were friends. I was very introverted as a small kid so I got picked on a lot as well. But I turned my fear and anger into positivity and vowed to never treat people like that.

When I was in high school there was a rumor that the French teacher was a drug dealer. There were a lot of jokes about this as she didn't seem all that street-savvy or the type. Turned out she was not only a drug dealer, but was the kingpin for a local drug cartel, was arrested, and convicted as such.

It was a rumor about the “Cookies” our cafeteria served. Some back story on these cookies though… These cookies were over baked on the edges and under baked in the middle, and had chocolate chips, and they were sooooo good! Apparently though, a rumor that cockroaches were the chocolate chips in these cookies was sent around… Fast forward 5 months and one person found an entire cockroach in their cookie… let’s say I never ate those things ever again…

There was a rumor about certain chemistry teacher, who would slap anyone in corridor and will not even remember/unintentionally...Went on for 2 years, until it was found true, she had a moto neurological issue, like her arm had its own mind aka involutary reaction. Got it operated, before our term started..so I never got slapepd..duh

In middle school, there was a rumor about a sixth grade girl who was pregnant. Most people didn’t believe it but still made jokes about her. Unfortunately it was true, and she had also had some issues with substance abuse in elementary school. It’s crazy and terrifying how young she was when that happened.

That one of our teachers, Mr Hodgson, was inappropriate with the male students he mentored. This was the early to mid '80s, and those were mostly just referred to in humorous tones as "Hodgy's Prodgy's." Except that it was entirely true, Hodgson went to jail, and one of my classmates' families moved to the US to keep him from being subpeona'd to testify.

Catholic Grammer schoo. Team sports were a;lways with other Catholic schools. Rumer was that our principle was 'roomate" with a principle from another school! Small world we thought.

Our valedictorian-to-be...the quiet, 5-foot tall kid with a gentle smile that looked like an accountant's assistant with a tidy haircut, a polo tucked into his khakis and glasses that were most of his face, sporting a 6.x GPA....was the biggest drug dealer in town. The admins found out and tried to cover it up and tell him to stop. The police found out and weren't so kind. Could have gone to any university in the country, but by graduation could only go with the best local school, since he wasn't allowed to leave the state.

How does one get a 6.x GPA? I mean I'm old, but as I recall, 4.0 was straight A's.

Good question! It might vary by state or even county, but it's a "weighted" GPA based on extra credit for taking advanced (AP) classes, which each add 0.25 or something to your GPA. These classes also count towards college credit if you can pass the exam at the end of the semester (spoiler alert: he passed them all) and in an absolute best case, you can have about 1 year of college completed by taking these.

We heard a rumor that our female Vice Principal was having an affair with one of the already married teachers. We thought it was just made up gossip. Turns out that teacher was our PE teacher. His wife served him with divorce papers and our Vice Principal was transferred to another school district, much to the protest of the students. We also heard that there was a teacher whose wife won 2.1 million dollars off the lottery. Didn't believe it at first. Turned out that, not only was it the most boring and hated teacher in our high school, but he chose to stay and continue teaching instead of retiring. How did we find out it was true...he couldn't help but brag about it to every one of his classes.

I went to the equivalent of high school in Norway. The seniors here have about a month of driving around on pimped out busses and partying at the end of the year. (Russetid) When i was in my second year of high school, the rumor was that some first year students mom had been hired to do a strip tease on top of one of said busses just outside the school. Turns out it was, and she did. The girl whose mom it was never came back to school, and I don’t blame her.

I was very young, but there was a rumor that our principle had kids almost our age, but his wife killed them one day when he was at work. Turned out to be very true and very tragic. Someone posted a link to the newspaper archive decades later. It said he came home and found his kids, and the police found his wife wandering the streets not long after. I had never imagined it was true.

When I was in elementary school, there was a rumor that one of the male 5th grade teachers would have female students stay after school, then make them stand on the desks so he could look up their skirts. Skip three decades, I'm in my 40's and read a newspaper article about him being arrested for sexual misconduct with his female students. This went on for 40 years before he was caught!!!

there was a teacher like this at one of my previous schools, he'd knock something off your desk, make you pick it up, and poor luck if you bend over to pick it up! he'd have a look. we told the other teachers so many times but he was friends with the Principe and we didn't have no proof. i think he got fired once i left

Rumor went around that a kid brought vodka to school. Then the school banned water bottles, and we realized some idiot actually did it (and got caught). Oh! And there was the kid who snuck a knife in and went crawling through the vents. Finally, a SWAT team actually did burst down the door of the algebra classroom. Note: these all happened while I was in sixth grade.

one year?! WTH!!?? the most exciting thing that happened was a tornado. also had a fake fire alarm so we evacuated into the rain .. right before we were to get our school photos. we got our photos taken soaking wet. fun times!

Not me, but a cousin. The rumor was that some of the custodial staff were sleeping with some of the female students at the high school. They would drink and do drugs with the girls when school let out in the empty rooms. The men were in their 40's - 50's, the girls 14-17. It was a pretty big scandal.

That the most flamboyant, effeminate student in an all-male Catholic boarding school was actually heterosexual. Other students would pick on him and bully him incessantly. The guy was an extremely talented ballet dancer and landed a full scholarship to a fairly prestigious college. It was also partly guilt-by-association, as he and I were close friends and I was the openly gay student.

There was a rumor that the refrendar was pregnant after having sex with 3 different teachers on class trip. Didn't really believe it, but one year later we had a new girl in class after changing schools and one of the teachers was actually her mother's boyfriend and she confirmed the rumor.

That I was pregnant. Lol. (OK, as context, I was the goody-two-shoes, responsible, hardworking, straight-A student, the kind of girl who definitely does not get pregnant in high school. That one of the students didn’t get in trouble for anything at school because she was related to one of the admins. Turns out it was true, she was the Vice principals daughter. She skipped school, got drunk at school and even was rumored to have had sex at school. Not even a detention or anything. Yet I got detention for being late to my morning class a few times. I was a foster kid with ptsd and depression so I wasn’t the best at getting up in the mornings. :(

So my school is a boarding school and we have two yards for dorms, female,male(non binary got to choose). and there is a rumor that went around that each little quad in the yard(each grade has quad) there was a cursed dorm. and the one in my quad a kid supposedly committed suicide in it, i always felt that the room felt a bit off and even my roommate said to me one day "i feel like there is something in there, something that is not *person who is living in the room* and i don't like it" btw yes somebody did kill themself in the room

The sports equipment issue? It never happened. Years later she saw one of the rumor makers in jail (she became a gaurd) She never said a thing to the employees or convicts. THAT is a rumer where the victem was gracefull, it never happened to her.

There was also a rumor about one of the teachers being a pedophile. And yeah, it was true, he was the special education teacher. There was another rumor about a teacher attacking a kid. That one I’m actually not 100% sure about, but it sounds pretty likely considering the other things that happened at my school and the fact that she was fired.

Teacher having sex with a student. His wife the year I had him for government was not the same as when my sister had him. She was the one the rumors said he was sleeping with. She sat next to me denying it for an entire semester. Had I cared more about any of it I may have had an opinion at the time. Now I know what a creeper he was and I wish he was not allowed around children.

There was rumor in my high school (600 boys and 4 girls including me), that I know 100 + 1 ways of how to kill person with ball pen. I had some guys coming to me saying it's impossible that there would be so many. My answer: keep bugging and we find out which one is 74 :-). Needless to say, teachers also heard it and asked, they did get similar responses but keep in mind this was long before craziness these days, when fist fights did not include guns, knives or ball pens (despite being carried), etc. No ball pen was hurt.

Not a rumor, just a story. My old middle school math teacher was a complete jerk. He was stuck on the idea that my whole class was falling behind, so we were doing elementary stuff. The next year comes around and we have a new math teacher. 4 of us and wildly above, and the rest were doing fine with the completely new stuff we were being taught. Next thing we hear about the old teacher is that he went to a mental health place. Tbh I wanna think he was in the right, being taught the basics again can improve future knowledge... but I guess he knocked 4people unconscious in a resteraunt... he was throwing staplers at us >->

She shoved her phone in my face and sure enough it was her naked and finally the pepper spray I walked past it and didn't care assuming it was just a regular fight and she was screaming because she lost. My nose was stopped up so I couldn't even smell though I probably would've assumed it came from the kitchen since it was next to the cafeteria. Classmates came running into the room talking about and boom lockdown alarm went off I was surprised especially when I started texting friends and the rest did the same thing more information started pouring in. I knew the girl that had the pepper spray. She lived in the same area I did. Gotta love American schools

Moved and at my new school there was rumors of police doing drug searches in the school going class to class and arresting kids. Didn't believe until they walked into my 4th and 5th hour classes. Rumors that a girl posted nudes on Snapchat didn't believe until a freshman ran up to me and my friends in the lunch line and asked if knew so and so and yeah we sit next to each other in chemistry
