Around 40 years ago I was driving home at around 3am on an unlit A-road, the only car on the road. I was tired, having had maybe 4 hours of sleep over the last 3 days so I had my window down for the chilly air to keep me awake. I was about 20 miles from home, driving at 50-60mph when I clearly saw a large black horse running alongside my me then veer off and vanish into a field. Ghost horse? No: I knew straight away that tiredness was causing me to hallucinate, because on the dark road the only illumination was from my headlights so there was no way I could see anything to the side. Despite being no more than 30 minutes from home I turned into the next side road, pulled up on the verge and had a couple of hours of sleep.
