Buyer's remorse is a real thing. As far as anyone goes, if you've ever shopped, you've probably made a bad purchase here and there. This Bored Panda thread was dedicated to the most regretful instances of buyer's remorse. Check out what our brilliant community has submitted!

If you want to get the gist of it, here's a summary of the thread. While many described their regretful purchases that were pretty common, like a bad tech item, some had some brilliant insights that many unexpectedly related with. Bought exercise gear that you barely use? Turns out, you're not alone, perhaps even in the majority. Other submissions were a tad bit more strange, but all the more interesting. And, of course, there are many more truly brilliant stories that are best told by the authors themselves.

30 Things That People Regret Buying, As Shared By The Bored Panda Community A few years ago, Cadbury claimed they would stop selling their choco bars in the USA. I bought a gazillion of 'em. They're still available in the USA and they're fresh. Not like the evil choco-things taking up space in my pantry. As a door stop.

Cadbury did stop. Hershey's licenced the name and still sell Dairy Milk, Caramel etc. They taste like garbage - like most American mass produced chocolate.

I'm an American, and I think Hershey's is the most disgusting chocolate on the face of the earth... I was called "Un-American " by my ex at a party once for it.. no, I'm anti-crimes against chocolate!!

The Cadbury's chocolate you buy today is NOT the original recipe that had served for over 100 years. Americans bought the company and promptly changed the recipe, will not touch it now.

Almost right. Hershey's licenced the name and still sell Dairy Milk, Caramel etc. but using their own recipe. Cadbury's original can still be bought online and shipped. But it gets expensive.

They stopped selling bars using the British chocolate recipe in the US after the Hershey deal. All Cadbury in the US now uses the Hershey chocolate recipe to save production costs .

Cadbury chocolate in the UK, where it originates, changed its recipe following acquisition by a US company.

My parents have a gorgeous treadmill. I've only been back in my hometown for two years but I know it's been sitting unused for longer than this. I've offered money for it "I'll be using it, I just need to get it fixed" (something to do with the oil or whatever), I've offered to pay to repair it just to force them into action, met with "now isn't the right time." It isn't even used to hang clothes! It just sits there!! They also have a bowflex, at least that one hangs clothes.

You don't have to workout for an hour, or exhaust yourself. Exercise is important, even just 30 mins a day will help you live longer. If that's too daunting try just 10 mins at a time and work up.

I couldn't find a job for a bit and then I had an accident that laid me up for 10 years. Now I am told that my degree is basically outdated and I need more schooling if I want to work in forensic psychology. Oh and btw I turned 56 this past April.

I encourage you to try it again- my SO makes onion bhaji from scratch in ours - better than our local Indian takeaway, he also does breaded chicken to rival the Colonel... and the chips (fries/potato wedges) are soooo good, and ooooh the breaded garlic mushrooms! All this sounds like awfully naughty food, but done in the air fryer it's not nearly so unhealthy! I consider our air fryer to be one of our best kitchen investments.

An air fryer can also be used to reinvigorate food like chips (fries) that have been refrigerated. Instead of heating my chips or pizza in the microwave, I put them in the air fryer and put it on 180 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes. The stuff tastes like it was just made!

30 Things That People Regret Buying, As Shared By The Bored Panda Community I bought a tablet around 5 years ago thinking I will use it for work. I used it a few times out of curiosity but never used it for work as it wasn't efficient at all for me. It's just too small for work and movies, and that's basically all I use my computer for. So it ended up being an expensive useless purchase I still have on my shelf collecting dust. It wasn't touched for a few years. I should have sold it or donated it but here we are.

40 years ago, had a boyfriend who got a job selling timeshares. He described the selling process: start with a postcard guaranteeing the addressee that they had won either $10,000, a big screen TV, or a toaster. But to find out what their prize was they had to listen to a presentation. Essentially they were kidnapped for hours because the timeshare people would not let them go unless they signed a contract. In order to leave the presentation room or the back seat of a car required extreme forcefulness. Obviously, no one ever won the money or the TV.

My family has had a timeshare in FL since 1985. Have used it almost every year and the couple of years in the late 90's and early 2000's that we didn't use it we rented it easily. It's been well maintained and has brought many great memories.

I had two and it was good but the ever-increasing so-called maintenance fees are insane. why TF would I want to pay several hundred dollars a year each in maintenance fees for what is essentially one week's use of a vacation condo? It's a scam. I sold one and did a deed in lieu for the other. Never again.

30 Things That People Regret Buying, As Shared By The Bored Panda Community My first tattoo. I walked in and picked a piece of flash off the wall featuring a Chinese word that (you guessed it) was badly translated. Every other tattoo I have has either been designed by me or I worked with the artist to design it. Technically I still have my first tattoo, I just got it covered up.

It is a standard design that has been previously drawn and printed and is often displayed on a tattoo parlor wall. It helps give people who may not be sure what they want an idea for a tattoo. Think of it like a generic design you can get tattooed on yourself.

I'm probably going to cover up my first tattoo. Not because I don't agree with it, but people tend to get the opposite message from it. It's a gun scope on a swastika with the words "No Nazis on our streets" around it. Unfortunately, most people only see the swastika and think I'm a f*****g Nazi. Antifa BTW, in case you're wondering.

*IF* you pick a pre-made tattoo then change it up a bit. Different colours. That way, it's unlikely anyone else has the exact one. I got a dolphin after I swam with them...but I chose to make it a purple dolphin. The artist said no one had done that before :) I don't understand why people pick them off the selections on the wall or books. Well, after the 1st tattoo anyway. A proper Tattoo artist refuses to do that actually. Pay to have them design one if you cannot

The pelt was undoubtedly a by product for the meat. At least it wasn't wasted. An animal shelter might welcome it for baby animals.

I have several bunny-pelts. Didn't know the animals personally and they were used for food. Still don#t know what to do with them, but they're really snuggly and I kinda love them anyway. I do love animals, too - a lot, even. Still think that if the animal was used for meat, it's okay to use ALL of the animal for other purposes. Especially if there really isn't a good substitute for leather. Yes, there's fake-leather and vegan leather. They're great. Still not the best substitute if what you need is leather. It is great in the sense that maybe not every shoe needs to be made from leather when all you do with them is walk around in a city.

When we lived in Germany (12-14 yo) We went to a german department store and there was a huge display of rabbit pelts. I was fascinated because they were so soft. I found out that the Germans used them as protectors for their lower backs and kidney areas for the winter. I don't know if that's true, but that ws what I was told.

30 Things That People Regret Buying, As Shared By The Bored Panda Community When I was in my mid twenties, I was single and had a good paying job. Mind you this was in the 1990s. I went to dillards and bought this genuine leather jacket that cost around $500. I wore it maybe 6 times because I didn’t want to get it wet but it couldn’t keep me warm at all. I still have it in my closet just sitting there, reminding me of how stupid I was to purchase it.

30 Things That People Regret Buying, As Shared By The Bored Panda Community This one time I brought an iPad case from Amazon as an early birthday present. I really loved it. Then about a week later I had my birthday party. My mum told all her friends about the case I loved, no about a third of them bought it. Since it was $45 I was touched, but now I had four iPad cases and no one I knew had an iPad except me!

About 2 years ago my husband bought a cheap used car at 2500. It was his choice but once I found out it was a manual I should have talked him out of it. He was convinced he could drive it. Two months after purchase the clutch was in pieces all over the highway because he definitely couldn't drive a manual and I paid for an expensive taxi ride since he was driving me to the airport. It limped back home and sat in the driveway for over a year after this. January this year we bought a brand new car, our first new one. Gas prices have gone above what we can afford and now this nice car only goes to work and back. I'm cursed.

Here’s the issue, only Apple produced chargers and cables are made to efficiently charge Apple devices. Those cheap cables don’t properly regulate the power running through them and can damage your Apple device. Yeah, it’s expensive owning Apple products but I’m a fanboy.

Actually that's the one thing I don't regret buying. However, when I started exercising I had only some old dumbbells that my uncle used as a teenager and not much else, but when I exercised systematicallly (and actually saw results) I bought heavier dumbbells, then a yoga mat and resistance bands - they accompany me to this day in my morning routines and I am 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter. But I do recommend try to first start exercising systematically and buy anything when you actually know you'll be using it.

Probably after a woman bough the phone manager/sale person was pushing toward headphones as they would work fine with the phone and mother just went along with sales person pitch. There is nothing scammy about this, if that what happens. And if she later found she could get it chepaer then why she wouldn't return the products and get them from the other place?

An $88 karaoke machine I bought from Walmart 5 years ago. We never get to use it as we live in an apartment and the times we have tried using it the quality is no better than the kids karaoke toy my daughter had. Plastic mic, music significantly lowers when you add your voice but as soon as you stop it the music goes loud creating a disorienting pitch problem. Apparently you can add lyrics displayed on the TV but I was never able to figure it out. It's been just sitting there for years. It's better worth the money to go out to my favourite karaoke joint.... how I miss going out to karaoke.

When you go to buy something on Amazon ALWAYS READ THE BAD REVIEWS. I guarantee if it is made in China they post a whole bunch of positive reviews. The bad reviews always point out the major failings of an item. I was going to buy some Royal Albert Old Country Roses Canisters. Reviews were great, UNTIL I read the bad reviews. All of the bad reviews said that the colors were off, the "designs" were off kilter and they were not made in England or Thailand but China. Guess what? I am not spending 249 bucks on crap.

A lot of times Amazon doesn’t necessarily even have good prices. Not only is the product a knock-off, it seems to cost more than the original. A quick search shows that pattern is sold on Replacements Ltd for $179, or you can buy it directly from Wedgwood (or department stores like Macys) for $225.

Get it covered up! Go to at least 2 tattoo parlors for ideas & estimates before you make up your mind. A good tattoo artist will listen to your input & show you a paper drawing before he/she/they begin.

Laser is painful and expensive and doesn’t exactly return the skin to how it looked before tattoos - you’ll be left with some scarring :( Cover ups can be difficult or impossible depending on the tattoo’s size/darkness/thickness and the aptitude of the artist. Much better to think it through before getting inked, you’re right on that point :)

It's the reason I told my kids they could use marker pens on their body when they were kids. When they disappeared they could draw something else. Sadly two got huge tattoos at 18 and both regret having had them done because it's permanent and they can't afford to get them removed. I've heard from both so many times, that they wished they had just carried on with the marker pens lol. I just raise my right eyebrow which is my way of saying I told you that 😜

Sometimes we get tattoos and our BODIES don't age we'll lol. But, if the tattoo doesn't age well itself, the artist sucks. Proper tattoos(if taken care of) should look as vibrant as the day you got them for decades. Sun is the worst on them

If you have a good artist, are strict about aftercare, keep them out of the sun (and also wear sunscreen on them every day regardless) and have a little touch up maintenance every decade or so, you can actually keep them looking pretty good for quite a long time :) those blurry smudgy-looking old tattoos you see sometimes where the black ink looks blue come from not taking proper care or maintenance.

I still have my kids’ HM toys and they’re 26 and 28. They’re in large containers. When my kids were little I’d wait for a rainy day, take the containers and empty them onto the floor. Kept my kids busy for hours. Now I’m saving them for future grandchildren and more rainy days. It’ll be interesting to share vintage HM toys with them.

A house! The mortgage is killing me! Only 20 years to go before it is mine and will be paying almost double in total than what I 'bought' it for. €200k was the price, will have paid 380k when I'm done.... And the house is worth 350 now. (And that'll buy me 75% of the space on the current market)

Once you've repaid a chunk, would you be able to remortgage to a better deal and reduce your monthly payments? Also, if you are feeling a bit cash rich one month, or you've had a bonus, overpay your mortgage payment. They come straight off the capital sum, not on interest. Plus, in general, house prices go up, so it'll be worth more than you spent on it . Buying a house is the best way to pay yourself, as at the end you'll have a lovely house that you own outright. Not so if you rent.

I actually heard once that a better way to pay off the capital faster is put the extra you'd be adding to your monthly payment in an interest-bearing account instead until you have enough to just pay the loan off in full. This was because if you do hit a bind where you are at risk of foreclosure, banks are less likely to work with you and go ahead and foreclose because they take less of a loss than on homes where more is still owed. Doesn't seem fair, but better business for the mortgage.

In some European countries, where inflation is automatically coupled by law to your income, a fixed but large monthly payment seems a big chunk now, but in ten years time you're still paying the same but it will have become a (much) smaller part of your income..

We paid our mortgage off early buy paying about twenty five bucks a month more. The first twenty years of a thirty year mortgage is about 99% of the interest on the loan. The last ten years is just the amount of money for the house. If you pay a little bit extra they apply it to the purchase price of the house.

Think of all the time that went into dreaming up and then creating that piece of work. I'm happy to bet the artist gets far below minimum wage for all the time they put into it. I've sold originals to family for more. Oil paint isn't cheap. There's a lot of labour, time and love that goes into each painting. They can take a long time to create. If you have an original treasure it. Some artists find it difficult to part with them. Especially if it's a piece they are proud of and love.

First rule for buying any kind of art: You love it, utterly and completely. If you don't, don't bother. A lot of artists will work with buyers who need to make time payments. Most artists understand the tradeoffs made for art, often beauty versus food and shelter.

My first car. Wanted an Austin Mini too badly. Went to look and realised later the guy scammed me. Even had someone show up partway through my looking it over who feigned interest. "Well if you don't want it this guy will buy it". Young and stupid and paid too much. And then... for every hour driving I bet I spent an hour under the hood. Were some positives I guess. I will never buy another English car and I now just walk away if there are any pressure tactics when looking to buy something.

I was afraid to sell it for fear someone would come and try to steal it. Now I have a scooter sitting in the back yard that I can't ride or sell. Mid life crisis is a real thing, over 55, female

I bought a Piaggio for $3K (new) and I use it all the time - it's great for getting around NYC. i'm also a female in my 50's. Why can't you sell it, though? There's a waiting list for vehicles like this.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer had it's last season and lots of clothing and props from the show were being auctioned on Ebay. I really wanted Spike's duster but alas way way way out of price range. However, I did bid on a shirt Sarah Michelle Gellar had worn in an episode and was regularly bidding on it. One night I got crazy drunk and came back home to find this one particular bidder out bidding me yet again. So I entered a crazy bid and won. That was A LOT of money and I while I had it, I really didn't if that makes sense. I still have it. It's still in its original box. I haven't even framed it or anything. That was about 18 years ago now

My husband bought one of these and claimed "it was the culinary bomb" and that it would "allow us to do everything". It's job seems to be sitting on top of the areas I need to get to and making me move it around every time I use the kitchen. We don't do smoothies or margaritas (thinking about starting on the margaritas just to recoup some of the money) So, it is a large expensive, multi piece, in the way, paper weight.... not holding down papers.

No, thanks. Never saw the sense in paying a significant chunk of my income every month for the temporary conditional use of someone else's house when the same amount or less could be paying for a home of my own. Sure, owning has its downside - upkeep, property taxes, etc. - but it's so much more satisfying than renting.

Instant Pot? Put your food into the round cooking pot and put into the housing. Plug in the pot. Put the lid on until it makes a chirp. Hit 'pressure cook' (make sure you've closed the pressure valve) and the time you need (use the + and - buttons). Then just wait and it will beep when it starts cooking and beep when it's done. You can wait for it to depressurize on its own, or open the pressure valve and release the pressure. When all the pressure is released, open the lid. There you go.
