It's called Plan A. They anticipate it being available to the public sometime in 2026. It is a gel injected into the tube that blocks sperm, lasts 10yrs, and is 100% reversible with a simple injection to dissolve the gel.

The problem is that each type of plastic needs to be extruded at a different temperature and rate so the end filament needs to be made of a consistent plastic Making good PLA filament isn't easy (the use of PLA filament for 3D printers was invented here in New Zealand) - it needs to be heated to a consistent temperature and then cooled in a controlled manner otherwise it get brittle. Cheap PLA filament isn't usually pure and contains modifiers. PLA at least is pretty human safe, a lot of filament isn't nice stuff when heated up and as for some random household plastic... There is a lot of effort going into reusing the plastic from failed prints (which is generally the cleanest) but making it into new filament but even that isn't pure any more. I've seen chopped waste filament used for art projects, the plastic is arranged together in an image and heat pressed (see Geeko Farm episode 92) and I've also seen a machine which takes milk bottle lids from sorted household waste and tiles
