Honestly it's a beautiful way to decorate a tree. We weren't poor poor but we didn't have much extra to spend on ornaments for the tree. We would string popcorn and construction rings to decorate with. Loved doing it. Didn't realize till much later in life that a lot of families didn't do this. But it was a great thing to do together.

One Christmas my brother and I got Troll dolls in our stockings. Mine was a girl with long hair and his was a boy with short hair. When we pulled them out of the stockings my brother started laughing and could barely speak. We thought he just was laughing 'cause the doll was funny. Then he managed to say "It looks just like Aunt Sophie", who was my Grandma's sister. It did and then we all couldn't stop laughing.

I have one too…pine one with colored dried corn kernels glued to it. But I prize the walnut ornament. My grandfather made us all walnuts - holes drilled with a thread to hang it, and gold glitter glued on in the approximate shape of our name. He’s gone now and I treasure it - think of him whenever I see it on the Christmas tree!

My mom just showed me a little clay witch I made in second grade (like 1995) and the poor things arms and legs broke off, along with the top of her hat. It looks like a green and black piece of garbage. But my mom still puts it out every Halloween.

So the backstop. My dad had died earlier inthe year and my brother had decided to spend Christmas with his fiancees family. Friends had invited me to their house but it felt intrusive I was in my apartment feeling sad. There was a knock on the door but when I looked nobody there. I opened the door and found this on the step. It looks like something a child would make. There were few children in the building and inquiries the next day brought no results. To this day I have no idea where it came from but it cheered me up that Christmas. This happened over 40 years ago but it finds a space on my tree every year and has a special box to live in the rest of the year. It represents all that is good about Christmas to me. Best wishes everyone!

Does anybody put a weird ornament kinda hidden in the tree seeing if anyone would notice it. Only to have it just keep being put out each Christmas. No one saying anything about where it came from. I want to do this with my family tree but I want to know how others do it. Suggestions?

I encourage the kids to make ornaments that represent that year for them. My 7 y/o learned about the Titanic, so he painted an ornament of the sinking ship, with a glitter starry sky...

I coloured in this angel more than 10 years ago and eft it at my dad's place. Next time I went over he had attached it to one of those party horns and put it on top of the tree! 320735794_...97ce48.jpg
