Hey Pandas, How Soon After Having A Baby Should You Send Thank-You’s For Gifts?
Sending thank-you's for gifts is very important in some circles. It can be make-or-break-it in some relationships. For baby gifts, it's important to note the timing of the gift-giving. Some people have baby showers before the baby is born and receive gifts at that time. Before the parents-to-be are consumed with caring for a newborn, they might have free time to sit down and write (or type) those thank-you notes. If you received gifts AFTER giving birth, at what point did you start thinking (or not) about thank-you's? As a gift-giver, how do you want to be thanked and in what time-frame?

A friend of mine received a gift from a great-aunt days after having her first baby. She didn't send a thank-you within a week of receiving the gift, and the great-aunt vowed never to give her a gift again due to her appalling lack of gratitude. This attitude bothers me so much. Yes, it is polite to express gratitude for any gift received, BUT a person who literally just had a baby should not be expected to send formal thank-you's right away. Her focus should be on taking care of herself and her baby. Writing and sending formal thank-you's should not be a priority that soon after giving birth.
