My girlfriend and I made a cake shaped like a duck. I wish I had a photo. It was almond sponge with dark chocolate buttercream and yellow plain buttercream on the outside. And then we ate disturbingly large portions of cake and read books.

I turned 55 in July. As always I invited my neighbor, her mom and dad (both in their 80s), my mom (also in her 80s) and my godmother for a breakfast at home with cake and sandwiches. And that was all. I don't really celebrate and I don't need presents. Such a breakfast is so lovely, you come together, have coffee and chat. Bonus it doesn't last so long and you don't have to dress up. Stressfree
