Sorry for posting this as a question - in my experience they go through quicker.
TL;DR:
* As long as you use bored panda as a website and not an app, you should be relatively good - just install some extensions (Dark Reader [note: it makes dark mode automatic on all sites, but this is changeable relatively easily] and Ublock origin lite work well, in my experience) and enjoy!
* US law on this stuff is horrible
More detail:
ADBLOCKING: Get UBlock Origin Lite (not to be confused with UBlock Origin, which relies on a standard Chrome has decided to get rid of, or UBlock, a way sketchier entirely unaffiliated project). It's free, open source and doesn't participate in the "we're an adblocking company and here's some ads we'd like to insert", aka "acceptable ads".
DARK MODE: I'm going to be honest, I didn't have one installed prior to this, but thus far Dark Reader (a Chrome extension) is working fine at getting things dark. As noted, it's on by default on all websites, but that's fairly simple to turn off.
US LAW: From Cory Doctorow, at https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/27/an-audacious-plan-to-halt-the-internets-enshittification-and-throw-it-into-reverse/): "[I]f you wanted to add ad-blocking to apps you would commit half a dozen federal crimes. Bypass app DRM? That’s a DMCA 1201 violation, carrying a sentence of five years in prison and a $500,000 fine, for a first offense." That's why every website is pushing you to get the app - cause it keeps you from using adblockers and the like.
