Crate training doesn't have to be about that. Some pups have anxiety issues that can be soothed with crates. Eventually you leave the door open & they go in there to self soothe because they feel safer in there.

Don't have a dog, but that's the story with one of my cats. My cousin's children found her in the forest in their backyard, she was sooooo tiny, I think she was a runt that momma orphaned. 6 years later, she's only about 6 pounds, still tiny but she's you a lion's might.

Self-harming is a terrible thing to try to stop. I'm about 6 years from the last time I did, and stressful bad days are the WORST as far as urges go. I haven't in a while, but at the moment, the urge is large. I am still in charge of me right now. But it's a struggle.

Look at her arm... She has been harming herself. I'm glad the dog helped. Depression is very hard on people, and this dog helped her. Depression is something that doesn't just go away. She should have gotten a dog earlier. But I'm glad she chose to adopt a dog.

They told me she was about 2 Years old... but she still had a few baby-teeth. Sometimes they cheat a bit to get them over the borders finally. It was my first dog ever...so I thought it might be even better not to start with a pup :) And it was the best decission in my life <3

Gorgeous Doberman Pinscher. I'm glad you did not crop the ears, most Dobermans have their ears cropped and/or their tails docked mainly for fashion. Although some dogs actually need cropped ears or docked tails for health, most are cut for looks.

We have a "rescue" greyhound, too, and her kennel owner has a picnic twice a year so she can keep up with her babies. As far from abused as you can imagine -- she's been a queen since she was born! These days, at least in our areas, greyhounds are well taken care of, loved and cared for, and frequently retire young. Our girl never actually raced at all -- she took one look at the track and turned around and went back to her kennel! So the kennel owner sent her out for adoption at age 2. I was really glad to learn what a good life the greyhounds have around here. As Meagan says, they're friendly and loving; ours is a therapy dog, and is the absolute favorite at the local VA hospital! They have great manners, taught to heel, and the dogs live in mixed aged groups of about 12-15, so the older dogs teach the younger dogs proper dog behavior, so they're wonderfully socialized to other dogs as well as human-friendly. They're usually very healthy. They're great dogs!

Thanks! :) But he's not a really a "rescue".... He wasn't abused, as far as we know. We also have a dog who actually is a rescue, from Spain, and you can tell by her behavior she was abused. She is a Galgo, and if you are interested in rescuing a dog they really need a lot of help! Google "Galgo" and be prepared to cry. Our retired Greyhound is super open and friendly, loving, social (humans and dogs) and (relatively) well behaved. Other than needing to teach him stairs he seems a very well adjusted individual. They are handled a lot and exposed to a lot of people at the track, and well leash trained. Our vet absolutely loves him he's so calm! I highly recommend Greyhounds to even first time dog owners, Marston has been a dream! Great in apartments too, as they don't need extra exercise and sleep a lot. :)
