9-Year-Old Girl Builds Shelters For The Homeless And Grows Food For Them, Too
Though Hailey Fort is only 9 years old, she has already done more to help the homeless and needy than many of us have. This young girl spends her free time building mobile shelters for the homeless, and even grows food and provides toiletries for them, too!
When Fort was 5 years old, she asked her mother, Miranda, about helping a homeless man she saw in Bremerton, Washington, where she lives. Her mother said yes, and now they work together to help the needy. The man she helped, Edward, has become her friend. She builds the shelters, “so then you don’t get rained on and you feel safe and stay dry.” “It just doesn’t seem right that there are homeless people,” Hailey told King 5 News. “I think everyone should have a place to live.”
This year, Fort’s goal is to grow 250lbs (113kg) of food, build 12 shelters, and delivers thousands of toiletries and hygienic items. You can help her by buying items on her Amazon ‘wedding registry’ or by contributing to her GoFundMe campaign.

When Hailey was 5, she saw a homeless man and asked her mom whether she could help him by buying a sandwich
Since then, this 9-year-old has been building mobile shelters to help her homeless friends
“It just doesn’t seem right that there are homeless people. I think everyone should have a place to live”
Thanks to discounts, each shelter costs only about $300 to build
She gets some help and guidance from her parents but does much of the construction herself
She also plans to grow 250lbs of food for the homeless in her little garden
The roofed and windowed 8x4ft (2.4×1.2m) shelters are built with pallets, recycled denim insulation and wheels so they can be moved
You can help her by buying items on her Amazon ‘wedding registry’ or by contributing to her GoFundMe campaign

What an amazing little girl... first we have a boy growing his hair to donate to cancer patients & now a little girl building shelters & growing food for the homeless...! These children surely are Earth Angels <3 <3 <3
it makes me sad that such little girl has a heart big enough to help other people, not just with some words, but with action. while i'm here sitting in front of my computer rarely helps people around me. best of luck to you little girl
hi I’m a 8th grad student and we have to chose a person who we think should be a cnn hero and I chose her she is very amazing
Müssen uns Kinder zeigen was Menschlichkeit ist ? Ich schäme mich . ;o (
oh sweetheart... you made my day. thank you and big thanks to your great mother.
In a lot of states she would get arrested for this ! But well done, and lets hope more people adopt her attitude.
She has very pure soul but she should bring her homeless friends to help her do most of these things. They're homeless not crippled. Sorry for my language but we have to give the homeless people some dignity to prove that they can do useful things, rather than just wait for somebody to give them what they need without them making any effort. To me this act of being too kind is not helping them but making more lazy people instead. But sure we do need more people who really care like this little girl.
Homeless people should be ashamed that a little 9 yo girl is actually working for them and risking an injury, mabybe also a serious injury working with the tools, and they are not able to pcik up their asses to get a work and place of their own by themselves...
