You've also got to remember that the National Parks here in Canada are huge compared to other countries. I am glad to see they are conserving wild life elsewhere though.

It's all about cost. Ikea wouldn't do it because it makes the product more expensive for the customers. Other, already more upmarket companies won't do it because it will lower their profit margins

N....no. 1) Most importantly this would require additional, pointless packaging waste. 2) It's added cost, which will inevitably be shifted onto customers....and for what? Because someone (you!) is too lazy to spend 5 minutes organizing the hardware beforehand? If I had to choose between this, and accurately made parts with accurate pictorial instructions, give me a bag of parts and a parts list. I’ve assembled -so- many cráp flat pack pieces. Pieces that don’t fit together correctly are a lot harder to work with than sorting screws.

IMHO, it's not that they're lazy, it's that they want to produce products the cheapest way. A change in design and packaging would cost many thousands of dollars initially. Instead of making the investment to better serve customers, they would rather focus on their bottom line. For me, if a company did this type of packaging and directions, I would spread the news and perhaps convince others to buy from them. That's a downstream advantage that would bring the company more customers/revenue. It's tunnel vision, without considering the customer.

Yes. The basic idea is good but when there are two regular traffic lights I can't see any reason to light all 30' of the pole. Besides the unnecessary light, it requires a bunch of unnecessary energy, too.
