Woman Reveals Her Transition Photos After Taking Hormones For 14 Months

Interview

A Reddit user named Natalie Zamani went on an incredible journey to find herself. From childhood, she felt like she didn’t belong in her body. Feeling confused and lost, she found other people like her in the world and realized that she is transgender.

Soon, after a lot of research, Natalie discovered that she could take hormones and finally feel like herself. She shared progress photos of her transition on Reddit and they are amazing! Natalie received a lot of love and support from other Reddit users. She shared her story with Bored Panda down below.

“I learned early on that feeling this way was something I had to completely hide, but my girly tendencies still came out in my personality here and there. That changed when I hit my early teen years and the start of puberty, however. I felt disgusted with the changes happening to my body and miserable that I had to endure them helplessly. This is around the time I first learned what it was to be transgender.”

“I did research and found that there were other people like me, who had chosen to do something about it. That it was possible to transition. But what I found in all but a few cases was that people who had transitioned lived difficult lives on the margins of society, unless they were lucky and strong enough to live in ‘stealth’ and had that privilege by virtue of being able to just blend in and hide. Going stealth, as I understood it, often meant people would leave behind their old lives and relationships and start a totally new life far away from them. That, being the best option at the time, sounded both incredibly lonely and difficult for me. And there were no guarantees that would even be attainable for me. So I made the impossible decision that I had to take this knowledge with me to the grave, and live as happy a life as I could without acknowledging who I really was.”

“Anyways, fast forward to last year. I was 27, I had a great job in tech, a lovely relationship, and had built up confidence in my life. Life was good, but yet I was still not at home in my body. I realized I couldn’t outrun my identity and expect to live a full life. The acceptance of trans people had totally shifted during my lifetime, and I didn’t face life at the margins purely for being openly trans. I had to start living my life. I drove to Planned Parenthood a few days after that realization and started hormones.”

“This journey has been the most difficult time of my life, hands down. But it’s also been the most wonderful period of growth. It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing people I have in my life—family, friends, and my amazing partner have been my biggest source of support and embraced me so fully and wholly. Over the past 14 months, I’ve grown into the person I truly am and started to find an inner love that was never there before. I’ve only been out and presenting as me for a few months now, and didn’t start doing so until the pandemic had fully hit, so I’m very excited for what my life has in store once I can start experiencing all that life has to offer out in the world as the real me. I’m so happy I held out through all of the pain and difficulty for this moment.”

We asked Natalie what people inspired her to go through this journey: “So many of the visible amazing trans women in media inspired me — and then meeting lovely people in real life who could also inspire me!”

Natalie shared that she loves music and collects vinyl. She’s slowly, but surely becoming a plant mother. Natalie enjoys creative writing, yoga, cycling, and the arts.

She shared with us the first things she noticed when she started her transition: “It was really slow and for about 10 months I looked super awkward. But I noticed immediately feeling like things were right in my body, and that I was at least on the right course finally.” She also opened up that the hardest part of the transition was losing loved ones.

“My partner Irene was and is incredibly loving and supportive. She was the first person I’ve ever told. My mother has always been behind me in my life, and for this, it was no different. And then my brother really showed up for me, and protected me when I needed it,” – said Natalie when asked who supported her the most during difficult times.

Bored Panda asked Natalie if she receives hate and sadly, she answered that she does. “It doesn’t bother me anymore. I’m happy, my life is wonderful, and I really hope those people who hate me can find their own peace someday.”

    Some more before and afters

Natalie shared some wisdom for people who don’t feel like they belong in their bodies and are thinking of transitioning: “Transitioning is hard and unpleasant at times for most of us — but I promise you it gets better. If you don’t feel ready to do it yet — don’t force yourself. Start your transition when you feel ready and safe!”

“If you’re interested in educating yourself, I recommend watching Disclosure (on Netflix) and reading resources from HRC and similar organizations. We’re hurting no one by trying to live our authenticity. If that bothers you, I recommend you take a look at yourself and ask why,” – said Natalie when asked what she had to say to the people who don’t understand or disslike transgender people.

Just to clarify (this is Natalie), I had facial feminization surgery about 50 days ago, hence some of the pics show a nose bandage. So there are a mix of pre-surgery and post-surgery photos here :)

I am 100 percent for people living as happily as they can. I will never understand how people can be so personally offended by another person living their happiest life, and not bothering anyone else. And for people who are so.fussed with transgender people, I put it like this. People make choices.different from yours all the time. That's why there's different pizza flavors, fashions, car models, etc. I bet you don't waste time being bothered by people being different in those ways. But how can you stand inflicting pain on someone else- real,. lasting pain- because you're so bothered by someone making a choice.that isn't yours? People aren't dying from choosing different pizza toppings than you, but they are from being shamed by closed mindedness forcing them to live totally against their true selves.

Can't we have one article where we don't have mentally-ill people trying to push their agenda? I mean the screeching 'chromosome' bigots at the bottom of the comment section, not you Natalie (well done with the transition btw- you look amazing!)

I think you’re beautiful, Natalie, before and after. And I’m so happy you’re comfortable and confident with who you are. You look so much happier! My daughter was not born female and was always shy and insecure. Now she’s happier, confident, and she’s the girl at school who will stand up for anyone.

I too, have a transgender daughter. Now that she's started hormones she's become a much more happy and confident person as well. If your daughter was anything like mine, you probably always knew this was who she was supposed to be.

If she had corrective surgery of her body, she runs out of female hormones and some things might change to more inbetween, but she won't grow a beard ore something like that. It might have a negative impact to her bones and some other things, but only after a while. Well if you are diabetic and your insulin runs out, you're dead, so in comparison it's not great but not that much of a catastrophe.

Being in the LGBT community I have to say that I am super happy to know that Natalie has found her happiness. I personally do not fully understand the Transgender community, but all I want my brothers and sisters to know is; "Even though I do not completely understand what your going through, I fully support you 1000%." I cannot imagine not loving yourself and feeling trapped, as we in the L, G, and B of the group have felt. Again, I'm just relieved that she took her journey to being herself, and her smile says it all.

Damn pretty people who look hot regardless of their gender...All I could think of was "Well that is just unfair". Seriously, super happy people are finally able to seek medical treatment to help them transition. My friend went through the hormone treatments and she said it was terrible for the first 6-8 months, but regardless of the mood swings, she was happier than she had been in years because she is transitioning into a body that fits her. P.S. My friend was also prettier than me both before she transitioned and after. Caught between being happy for them and my deadly sin of extreme envy.

I think it is nice for all these people taking hormones so that they can look lovely and be happy and I am sure that if only we could explain this to all the female horses who spend their lives pregnant and chained up so we can get their urine, they would be delighted to know they are helping.

So I want to address to dogmatic falsehoods being spread here. The first thing is, that all this talk of what's natural, or how things are naturally meant to be, falls under the same logical fallacy: appeal to nature. There is nothing inherent to natural that implies it is better than the alternative, the implied premise "natural is good" is mere opinion and moralizing. In fact, there is nothing scientific about an appeal to nature. Artificial qualities are found all over the animal kingdom, not just in humans, take the evolutionary advantage of a beaver dam for example. Speaking of animals, there is no sceintific consensus on what sex is. There is no such thing as "biological sex", because there is no one such thing. In biology, it encompasses many diverging features, such as endocrinologic sex, chromosomal sex, gonadal sex and nuclear sex. All these varies in any given organism. Butterflies for example, we consider the XY bearers female and the XX bearers male. Continued in comments

    2) Platypuses have ten sex chromosomes. Some species don't have gonadal sex at all (genetalia), and some have somatic sex chromatin without having XX, XY genotypes. The point is, sex in science is a semantic distinction for a very diverse and complicated evolutionary practice. Which category you fit into based on that criterion is social rather than biological, and is commonly called gender. When you argue for "biological sex" what you're really saying is you don't understand the science behind sex and gender but would like it to support your preconceived idea anyway. That is not science, that is dogma. You're trying to diminish someone's transition, in this case Natalie's, not because you have facts because you dislike it to the extent you're ready to spread falsehoods and logical fallacies. I recommend fixing your hearts of that hatred.

Not being rude..but i really don't see a difference between the two faces. What am i missing besides facial hair? Usually hormones taken early in life can stop certain features. So what do they really do for you in your 20's? Being real..not seeing a difference

Considering she will not produce her own needed level of estrogen, I think it's safe to assume if she ran out of meds the whole process will slowly go back to its original male state. Not entirely, but facial hair will regrown (unless she has had laser treatment rigorously), any breast tissue will lose firmness (unless implants were given), face would not be so full and pretty much anything that we think of as masculine would start to happen. This of course is not considering actual surgical medications that were done, because those don't really go back lol.

so we have to support non-binarity, but then we applaud when someone can't self-accept and mutilates own body to be binary. I know it can be very difficult for many of these people, and it is their personal decission as long as they are adults (dont allow kids to do this, please), but it is our responsibility to encourage and help them to be happy with themselves as they are, rather than pushing them to artificially change their bodies.

Until we fully understand what causes gender dysphoria, hormone replacement therapy and surgery are the only ways in which we can help these individuals. There's also a biological component such as in the case of intersex people that you need to consider. In some cases allowing trans children to transition before puberty will actually save them from alot of pain and struggle.

And? People don't choose to be transgender. She was born as a woman, but it just happened she was born in the wrong body. What do you get out of being transphobic? How do her decisions affect you? Why do you feel the need to come on here and be transphobic? Humour me.

I know this is not going to popular and many will not tolerate my having a different view or the right to express myself. But we are all born with whom we are supposed to be. Those who believe the lies that they are really something else is systemic of social decay, degradation, and a total lack of morality. And I do feel sorry for such people especially after they do these drugs only to find out later that their bodies are going to rebel and cancer will, I repeat, WILL ensue and their lives will be filled with misery and gruesome death. And there are no successful means to reverse it either. To reverse it is to introduce the hormones they are no longer producing and thus again introduce cancer. It seems to me it would be better to find out the truth as to why they feel the things they do and deal with it. Dude, you will never be a real woman and you will be angry for them not telling you what will happen when it does happen. You might become another statistic, sad, very sad.

Sorry. No matter how PC this world gets, no matter how much we gloss over it and remain perpetually afraid to voice the obvious truths here, this is a man. He will always be a man, irrespective of playing biological 'dress-ups'. I am happy he is finally happy with his choices, and hopefully he can now get some peace in his life - but he is not a woman. He will never be a woman in any way whatsoever.

And? People don't choose to be transgender. She was born as a woman, but it just happened she was born in the wrong body. What do you get out of being transphobic? How do her decisions affect you? Why do you feel the need to come on here and be transphobic? Humour me.

Sorry dude but you needed a therapist not a surgeon. Gender dysphoria is a real mental illness! Besides, you'll always have the dreaded XY chromosomes. Science doesn't care about your feelings.

Why do you care? She's allowed to what she wants with her life and her choices are not going to affect you one bit. Respect the transgender community, because it's what decent human beings do.

You might become another statistic, sad, very sad.

i'm saying this in the nicest way i can think of: no one asked you. she's not hurting you in any way. if trans people offend you by existing, maybe you're the problem.

So were back to pushing the trans s**t again. I guess the world is back to normal and no real issues to address.

it doesn't matter what YOU see. the difference is now she feels like herself. if you compare her expression in the before and after photos, she looks so much happier in the after ones.

Why do you care? Why does it bother you so much which gender someone decides to be. It has literally NO affect on your life.

She's not a "she". And obviously she's not a (he). And seems to have it quite well figured out, I wouldn't worry about her.
