The mastermind behind The Oatmeal comics, Matthew Inman, has been showering us with hilariously relatable comics for nearly a decade. During this time, his mildly-offensive but, nevertheless, funny comics and sense of humor have won over many hearts on the internet. Over 4 million on Facebook and 850K on Instagram to be exact.
His cartoon drawing series ‘At the gym: who is looking at whom,’ explores every first-time gym goer’s fear of being looked at. Matthew reveals how different types of people react to being looked at, who’s looking at who, and what are they thinking about while they’re doing it. Turns out, most are battling their insecurities, no matter the physique they have.

The "staved baked Potato" isn't thinking anything like that! She is too busy admiring herself in the mirrors and thinking she is the best looking in the gym. We all know her. She comes to the gym in full make up, hair done perfect in coordinating skimpy workout clothes.

*please oh please don't talk to me* is very accurate. In the state I live in people are so God damn chatty... stand in line for 1 minute at the store and the person next to you has told you about the last 20 years of thier life and the 15 restraining orders that's within his family circle so go figure what happens at the gym. Sometimes you just want to be left alone. Guess this state people.

No offense to anyone, but I have never met any super-body builder cool guy! They go nuts after build of so much muscles, that all day all they can think of is showing off their muscles or their power! Sometimes I feel their brains get transferred to their body and that start looking like super muscles, leaving a huge space in the head.

Nobody should be happy with their default bodies unless they work in labour. The human body needs resistance and stress. They are literally meant for it. More people have back pain that work in a cubicle than on a construction site.

I like the person who said they work out without their glasses. I do that. I have been told by male friends that the elderly dude and all his elder friends walk around the locker room naked, sticking their junk in peoples' faces. There's not worrying about how you look and then there's being gross.

Why fuzz out "boobs" in the last panel? It's a perfectly legitimate word, and you didn't fuzz out "Boobies" in the previous caption. False modesty is more embarrassing!

I think comics like these only work if the captions make you go "oh haha, yeah people DO think like that!" But . . . no. These do not resemble real human behavior for the most part. Especially the "baked potato" one. Why tf would she be thinking that? What? Huh? That makes completely no sense. And why would the woman who wants to be like her call her that in the first place? Oh, for the author to get his misogynistic digs in. Right. The Oatmeal sucks big time. Ugh.

I think on average modesty and intelligence aren't valued by those with good looks and trimmed physiques because most people believe they are modest and intelligent. But hey, I often wish I had a little more of all of those things!
