Hello, my name is Steve Nelson, and I’m a comedy writer and aspiring illustrator based in Brighton, UK. I am the creator of Audible Originals' comedy series The Temp and have written on a handful of TV and radio shows. Being a comedy writer is mostly writing stuff that will never see the light of day, and a few years ago, I got fed up with it, so I wanted to do something where I could show my comedy instead. I always loved drawing, so that seemed the best medium to present my jokes.

The ongoing pandemic has allowed me a lot of spare time to draw, so I decided, as this Christmas has been a bit... weird, why not have some fun and bring a little bit of festive cheer by making a virtual advent calendar on my Instagram? Every day in December, you could swipe open the advent window to find a new, funny, festive illustration. What great fun that would be!
Problem was, I only decided to do this advent calendar a couple of days before December... I very quickly discovered coming up with 24 funny Christmas illustration ideas was much harder than I realized, and then getting the drawings finished in time was extremely stressful! Some drawings were quicker than others, taking only an hour or so, but some took up to 5 hours to complete. There were definitely a couple of late-night, last-minute drawing sessions to get them finished in time to share the following morning!
It’s been worth it in the end as the reaction has been very positive. The ‘Last Christmas’ one, in particular, was shared around quite a bit, and by some big accounts too, including @whitepeoplehumor, who have a whopping 4 million followers!

I actually bought a tin of danish butter cookies a week ago and my son walks in and goes "Why's there a sewing kit in the kitchen?" 🤣Like when have I ever sewn??
Which is why I never ever use a old cookie/biscuit/chocolate tin for anything else: the disappointment of this ⬆️ Is just too much too bear...
I think we can all identify with the Royal Dansk line of sewing equipment containers that legend states once came filled with cookies.
