Interview With AuthorMore and more TikTok creators are using their platforms to share some interesting bites of knowledge, whether it's facts that sound too crazy to be true, or psychological facts you didn’t know, or interesting cat facts for feline lovers, or facts that show just how rare our bodies are… the list is endless!
For any skeptic out there, we can just point out the fact that learning things on social media is basically using it to your advantage. Especially when keeping in mind it’s also a place for not so pretty things like competition, toxicity, and body dysmorphia.

"This twelve-year-old from Ethiopia was on her way home and she was snatched up by four men. A week later, the group of men encountered these three lions and these lions chased the men off and kept the little girl. And they stayed with this little girl without harming her until the police found her."
According to BBC News, the 12-year-old girl was abducted by four men on her way home from school in June 2005. A week later, when police tracked the men as they were trying to escape with the girl, the abductors encountered three African lions who chased them off. The lions stayed with the girl without harming her, according to the report. The story had spread like wildfire after BBC quoted a local policeman, sergeant Wondmu Wedaj, who said, They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest." However, lion experts doubted the credibility of the story. BBC News quoted a few wildlife experts on the same report. They said the lions were probably preparing to eat the girl but were intercepted by the police and others. Another expert said the lions might have spared the girl because her crying may have sounded similar to the mewing of lion cubs.
Interesting… I’ve read stories of, for example, a very young leopard cub being “cared for” by a lioness. It’s nice to think that maternal instinct, regardless of the species, may trump their willingness to kill… unless it’s a food that is natural to them, like a gazelle. If that makes sense lol
Load More Replies...It tells you something if an apex predator is less predatory than the men...
I am so glad the little girl is safe. As for the men, the lions should have torn them apart. Nothing could justify their actions.
I think the men tried to r@pe her and her cries sounded like a lion Cubs, so the lion’s protected her.
My thoughts too. A little girl getting kidnapped by 4 men is definitely a receipe for pedophile r@pe.

To find out more about the author of these viral TikTok video series, we reached out to Kiyahshi, who said she started making them totally random. “When TikTok first came out, I was a little skeptical about it but decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did! I have amazing followers and love to entertain them.”
It turns out, Kiyahshi is also an up-and-coming music artist and she started making beats and Acapella skits on the 2009 Apple Mac on a garage band. “Now, I make beats and record them on my phone. I taught myself how to play guitar on YouTube and it’s been my baby since,” she told us.
"In 2007, a whale was found with a harpoon in its neck. They took the harpoon and realized that it was from the 1800s. This whale has had a harpoon in it for a century."
It being from the 1800's doesn't necessarily mean it was in the whale for that long. . . still, no stabby stabby!
Your right, it could have gotten caught on the whale while it was swimming

Its brain is located in its throat, the nervous system is in its abdomen, the teeth are in its stomach, the kidneys are located in the head, it hears with its legs and tastes with its feet. And just like humans, they're either right clawed or left clawed."
They can live for a century and are one of the only organisms known to not weaken as they age. Imagine being 95 and the best you've ever been.
And they cannot die of age. They mostly die because they're eaten (by human or animals).
or because they stop moulting when they get older, which leaves their current shell to become damaged which continues until death
Load More Replies...Erm. A lot of this is, 'sort of,' or 'not really.' Lobster anatomy is more like that of insects - they are arthropods - and so very unlike ours. Among other things they've a very simple nervous system without a brain per se, but rather a notocord running from an anterior basal ganglion - a bulb-like quasi organ up behind the large antennae - down to their tail. They've also no kidneys, but rather a gland snuggled up to that ganglion with ducts at the bases of the large antennae, through which they release a substance I've seen referred to as urine that carries pheromones used to identify & communicate.
Makes sense, if the kidney's are in the head

Thoughtful people concerned for future generations. In another country I won’t name, there was a huge area of land that had not ever been developed, throwing caution to the wind without ever wondering why such a huge piece of land was not developed for centuries, greedy developers went in and developed the entire area in a short period of time. A couple of years later the entire area of development was wiped out in a hurricane. It wasn’t until the tragedy that someone researched the area. It remains undeveloped

"These conjoined twin sisters actually share a brain, but not only that, they can hear each other's thoughts and they can see out of each other's eyes."
The Hogan twins - they are actually 15 years old now, and yes, it's true they share thoughts, but while Tatiana can see out of both of Krista’s eyes, Krista can only see out of one of Tatiana’s. Also one controls 3 legs and an arm, the other 3 arms and a leg. Totally mind-blowing 😲
If it is one brain, technically, you could say it is actually one person, with 4 eyes, 4 ears, two hearts each responsible for its own half.
Hard to tell whether they are two persons with one brain or one person with two bodies. The answer might be that life actually doesn't care about that kind of distinctions and boundaries. As long as said bodies are functional and they don't suffer, I hope they enjoy a long and happy life and maybe tell us about their unique human experience.
Poor girls. Their necks must constantly pain them. I hope they can live a fulfilled life or that it will be possible to separate them without problems. Just think of how complicated this makes their lifes! Transportation, sleeping, peeing, having boyfriends, putting on clothes, learning to walk, being an individual……

Knowing information that people wouldn’t know is such a cool thing to talk about. It lets people discover, debate, wonder, or even surprise,” Kiyahshi said.

"Not making your bed exposes bed mites to fresh air, which dehydrates them. But if you make your bed, you're exposing bed mites to moisture, which makes them flourish."
Good enough reason for me. I don't see much point in making the bed, it's not like anyone sees it.
B/c it feels nice to get into a made bed. And it makes the whole room look put together and neater. People don't make beds for others, we make them for ourselves. Unmade beds look like despair and laziness.
Load More Replies...If you wash your sheets every week, this isn't a problem. I let it air awhile and then make it. I cannot abide unmade beds. It just looks like you've given up. I like to get into a made bed at night and I like the room to look put together so it's inviting when we get home.
Unmade beds are horrible! You don’t even have to make it WELL, but not making it looks bummy. Twice weekly fresh sheets feel so much better anyway and you don’t have to sort you a crumpled lump of blankets and sheet.
Load More Replies...Making the bed = letting it air out for an hour or two in the morning, then shaking everything and putting it back nicely for the next night. Somehow I don't think that's worse than just letting it steam all day in the knot I crawl out of in the morning...
Yep. I fold back the bedding, open a window and after about an hour close window, make bed, let cats sleep on bed.
Load More Replies...Same here. My family jokes that I'm like the princess and the pea because I don't sleep well unless the bed is made properly.
Load More Replies...I am sure there are serious "scientific" studies about this. I am curious, where is coming from the moisture to which the mites are exposed when you leave your bed tidy? I am not covering my bed, but I always tidy it up in the morning, it looks more inviting in the evening than a messy bed.
more for people who sleep hot and sweaty. We're in FL and it can get pretty hot sometimes even with AC. I just throw back the sheets when we get up and leave it that way for an hour or so and then make the bed. If I don't feel like we slept hot, I just make it right away.
Load More Replies...Making your bed just seems like one of the most pointless tasks ever! It's going to get messy again that same night anyway and most of the time it's not like anyone is going to see it.
I always have my bed made in the morning, but i fold it in two in the length and i open the windows to refresh.
Making the bed in our family has always been to pull the covers neatly back. Everyone in my family does it for as far back as I can remember. Perhaps this is why?
"Originally, putting a fish in a fishbowl was a very big misunderstanding. It actually came from Chinese displays because goldfish were meant to be in ponds. And when guests come over, they would temporarily put the fish in a fish bowl. But then it became a popular thing where people are putting fish in a fish bowl permanently. And it's also banned in Rome, making it animal cruelty."
Ιt is. Especially small bowls. Fish need to swim. Also, please don't tap on the bowl/aquarium, the sound is amplified through the water and it's not good for the poor creatures
Yeah small bowl and relative big fish is really bad idea. Another problem I see is empty fish tank without functional ecosystem. If you put inside plants, rocks or snails, fish will be more focused on this enviroment rather than outside. With tapping if you tap and then feed them, they will associate tapping with possitive thing and they will take tapping as possitive event.
Load More Replies...It should be banned everywhere I'm so tired of those "keep your beta fish in a beer bottle" trend or any other small "cute" containers
Yeah bettas with long fins are far from wild bettas and they often got fin rot if they are kept in filthy enviroment. Also they need high temperatures (around 30c). Low temperature will slowdown their metabolism and make them more vulnerable to infections.
Load More Replies...I've put my fish in a bowl, as a temporary measure while fixing something with their main tank. I had to use a bowl, coz the daft beggars kept leaping out of the straight sided temporary tank I originally used. (I admit it wasn't a "proper" fish bowl, but I couldnt keep playing "catch the goldfish" for half an hour, and given that they lived a good few years afterwards, I'd say it didn't do them any lasting damage)
Oh man, my first betta would do that all the time when I changed his water! I had to have a sibling monitor him while I took the tank to be cleaned in the sink (he lived to be 3 years old, despite the fact that his first tank was only 1 gallon).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking if you love the dog. Not all Hollywood dogs live "with their family", many are kenneled and treated like any other working dog so it was fine for him to ask and doesn't make him a bad guy or a Hollywood monster in any way.

"Justin Bieber saved this man's life from a bear attack. This man was minding his business when this bear came along and attacked him. What saved this man is the ringtone his granddaughter put on his phone. The ringtone was 'Baby' by Justin Bieber, and it scared him off."
To put it into perspective, I would run away also when that song starts playing
I was so disappointed. I’d imagined Bieber actually fighting off the bear or something.
My Uncle was in hospital for 10 years because of coma. He suddenly woke up one day, only to turn off the radio nearby that was playing "Baby" by Justin Beiber.
Wow, Such a lucky escape. Saying Justin Beiber saved his life is a bit of a stretch. Probably wouldn't have mattered what ring tone was playing, would have likely startled the bear anyway.
No. I'm pretty sure it was Justin Bieber's music making the bear leave. Bears are pretty clever animals. Really, we should all be bringing Justin Bieber music as protection when out in the wilderness. Yup.

"When lions get injured, they can have mane loss. So when a lion sees a male with a long mane, they avoid fighting with him because they think he is stronger at combat."
My wife has a rather splendid mane and I strongly suspect she could take on a lion.
The mane makes them look larger in size and healthier as well. Intimidation by size and robustness.
A large healthy mane is a sign of a healthy lion. There are many other reasons besides fighting that can lead to them starting to lose their manes. Though, it still makes it a likely reliable indicator of fighting ability as healthiness is certainly central to being able to fight.
In recent years there has been a genetic anomaly observed in an isolated pride of lions where there is a shortage of males. The females have actually been growing a male-like mane. Biologists believe it is a short term evolutionary response to protect the overall health of the pride.

Load More Replies...Anything that contains >13% sugar or salt won't grow bacteria as it will draw the water out of the cells and kill them. If you ever see mould growth in the top of a jar of honey or jam - or something salty like Marmite - you can scoop it out and safely eat what's underneath as the fungal and/or bacterial growth is just in condensed water, or butter from the knife in the top of the jar.
It does have to be pure honey though. Most supermarket honeys have sugar water added to lower the price (which is why honey at farmers markets and other direct-from-source markets can seem so expensive).
5000 year old honey found in an Egyptian tomb was still edible for this reason
The pH is 3-4, and it contains hydrogen peroxide. Ancient people put it on wounds.
But don't put HP on wounds, it's bad. " hydrogen peroxide's oxidation also destroys healthy skin cells. This is why many physicians and dermatologists currently advise against using hydrogen peroxide to clean wounds , as it has been found to slow the healing process and possibly worsen scarring by killing the healthy cells surrounding a cut"

Oleander are used for bio monitoring of airborne particulates, including metals. All parts of the plant absorb toxins, which accounts for the extreme toxicity in roots, leaves, blossoms, stems. Even burning oleander is hazardous. Oleander is planted along California and Arizona freeways to help reduce smog caused by vehicle emissions.

"Back in the day, Egyptians had pregnancy tests. So women at the time who thought they were pregnant would urinate on barley or wheat seeds. If they urinated on barley, it was for a boy. And if they urinated on wheat seed, it was a girl. And if the plant ended up sprouting and growing, you were pregnant. And then in today's time, they went and tested this and 70% of the time they would be pregnant. They also did it on non-pregnant women and the plant didn't grow."
It's all to do with the hormones present in pregnancy urine. The barley for a boy bit is utter rubbish, but the pregnant/not pregnant test was 70% accurate as stated.

Is it just me or does the head/face remind anyone else of ET when he first encounters Elliot.
Nope, and now, since it's not 1930, it's no longer a hoax either.
Load More Replies...These were pretty common back in the day. They were typically called, "Fijian Mermaids."
I believe this was PT Barnum’s, and was exhibited in his “museum”. It’s now in another museum, but I can’t remember which. But I do remember seeing it and finding out the story of his hoax—-which had the added sweetness of confirming his belief that “there’s a sucker born every minute”.
Yeesh for a hoax they didn't try very hard...wonder if the person who made it was surprised that people fell for it LOL
"The reason why you eat sweets when you're sad is because your emotional state alters the perception of taste. They say foods that aren't your favorite taste the worst when you're upset. Eating comfort food is basically your subconscious telling you what you want and basically will tell you that this food won't be ruined by your sorrows."
Those bloody corona-kilos are a b!tch to get rid of.

Load More Replies...It does make us feel good for couple minutes. After that, we'd feel more sad
"Yellow snow is not the only snow you shouldn't eat. Some people recommend don't eat the snow, not even if it's white. Even pure white snow can be harmful. And the reason why is recent studies have shown that snow is like a magnet and it can pull pollution such as car fumes, gasoline. I even saw somebody put some snow under a microscope and there was all sorts of nastiness in it. You're basically eating a pollution popsicle."
and we breathe the same thing the snow absorbs, so are you telling not to breathe too?
This is just hearsay. I have no idea why this list is being given any prominence, or even featured at all. Anyone can start talking about some youtube video they saw. We all know that has as much factual weight as a pint of feathers.
"Ants go to war similar to humans, and they actually have some crazy strategies. For example, they'll put the weak ones in the front to protect the strong ones in the back."
I encourage everyone interested in this to watch World War Ant by Kurzgesagt.
Also, all working ants are female. Yes, even the warriors. The male ants only live for a short period of time, to mate. ALSO, not all ants do what is said here - some even have sick-bays in their hives and care for injured individuals. Ants are super-amazingly-interesting. Some even keep slaves.
In primary school me and my friends got two colonies of ants together to see if they would go to war...we had weird minds.
"Potato chips were made accidentally and it was believed to be made in 1053, when a chef was making fried potatoes and his customer kept saying that the potatoes were too thick. So the chef got annoyed with the customer and basically sliced the potatoes so thin, fried them and put a little salt. The customer ended up loving them. Chips were made."
Crisps were invented in 1853 in the United States. Cornelius Vanderbild, a customer of the chef George Crum, twice refused to eat the chips he had been served. Some versions of the story say that he found them too thick; others state that they were not crispy enough. So, George Crum decided to stop chopping potatoes and instead to slice them as thinly as possible before frying and salting them. The result was a real success and his recipe spread all over the United States. A few years earlier, in 1824, a recipe book called The Virginia Housewife had already explained how to fry thin potato slices until they turned crispy.
The 1824 book cites an 1817 book. The Crum and Vanderbilt legend was a popularisation from the 1970s.

"I might put you on a new strategy in Pacman because all four ghosts have different roles and are programmed to act differently. Starting off with the red one, he is programmed to chase you. So the orange one is programmed to be random, so he'll act like three of them. The blue one will try to ambush you, and the pink one will try to position itself in a set way."
Nothing wrong with calling them by color since alot of folks don't know they HAVE names and of those that do know, many can't agree on which one is which. Unless you are color blind though, most people can agree on which color ghost is which.
Load More Replies...actually, blinky chases you, pinky chases the spot in front of you, inky goes for the point where blinky is, mirrored across you, and clyde chases you until he's a certain distance away, at which point he'll go back to his corner, then go back to chasing you. so, extremely wrong. here's a video explaining the whole game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ataGotQ7ir8&t=2s
I'm colorblind, so I call the red one Bob, the pink one Bob, the blue one Bob, and the orange one Bob.
"There are seven types of twins."
This is wrong medically speaking. Mirror is not a "type" of twin. Some mo-di (identical) twins can have mirrored features, but that's not their genetic classification. And identical vs fraternal is not an official diagnosis either - it's either Di-Di, Mo-Di, or Mo-Mo - and some so-called-fraternal twins can be "identical". It's all based on how many eggs and if/when it split.
Me and my sister are mirror image, im left handed and my sister is right handed
My mirrored girls are both right handed, but all other things are mirrored. Dental braces, prescription glasses, hair whirls and birth marks.
